When I turn on the monitor an image comes on for

Most likely the power supply. Bad capacitors, if you think you can solder in new ones, good. If not; buy a new monitor

Fe991sb

Usually you just pry them apart. The cracking sounds and the amount of force necessary to do this is sometimes unnerving to the inexperienced.

Hi, the side mounted USB

The USB ports on the LCD is a USB hub. To use these ports you have to connect the input of the USB Hub of the LCD to one of the USB ports of the computer through a USB cable. You need a simple USB Printer Cable, which is easily available from any Computer Accessories store. Below is the picture of the cable. The normal USB plug (on the left) goes to the USB Post of the PC and the square one at the right should be connected to the LCD.

The orange light continuously blinks on my NEC

It could either be the Monitor has gone bad, the video card in your tower, or the cable connecting the two, the orange light signifies that the system is not getting the signal from the tower. Try replacing the VGA cable, if this is not an option try using the monitor on a different computer, if still no picture then the monitor is no good, if you get a picture try a second monitor with your desktop. If you get no picture then it is time for a new motherboard or graphics card. As far as replacing the cable if it is one piece with the monitor, it isn't recommended unless you a very comfortable opening the monitor up, in which case you risk causing more damage.
