If its showing a white battery with a cross then its not charging. Try using the car charger and see if it shows a battery without the cross.

the sat nav plug is connecting the data link prong so thinks its connected to a pc. try another power cable.

You need to go to the Navman product support website, if you need maps you must purchase them

It has a charge controller that takes care of that for you.

install the nav desk software to you p.c and connect the navman to the pc via the usb cable. You will be prompted that a map upgrade is available through the NavDesk software. Once the unit has synchronized with the NavDesk software you will be informed that a later map is available. looks like the dealer was offering a shonky lifetime update or the manufacturer would be honoring the deal take the details to a lawyer and see who is being having a lend of you it is possible that the manufacturer is seeing it as an opportunity to not fulfil the deal
