New batteries not holding charge
The problem is probably the AC adapter. If you have a voltmeter you can see what voltage is on the adapter output plug going to the base unit. Unplug the small plug from the base unit and measure. Since the batteries are 3.6 v, the power adapter plug needs to be something greater. Maybe 4.5 v. It should say on the AC adapter what it puts out (volts and max current). Usually the center is negative and the outside barrel of the plug is positive. Put the volt meter to 5v DC and put the black lead in the plug center and the red lead to the outside barrel of the small plug. If you measure a negative voltage, switch the leads. Make sure the Volt meter is not in current mode or you will be shorting the adapter at its output plug. If you get a reading larger the 4 volts then the problem is probably inside the base. There should be some circuitry to minimize charging current to the battery,.

Extended Handset
The phones have to have the same carrier frequency as the base set. The "out of range" display is because the frequencies are not matching. Check with the manufacturer (via website) and ask if your second handset can be programmed to a different base.

Base does not register with second Handset.
to register the extra handset it has to be exactly the same to be compatible with the base
if it is a slightly different model or older unit it probably will not register

Hi Naden Puttock,
Here are the steps to perform a hard reset in your device:
1. Switch off the device.
2. Now press and hold Volume Down + Volume Up + Power button, and release them, when you see menu of Bootloader Mode.
3. Then select option "Recovery" from the menu, using Volume Down, then press Volume Up.
4. When you see Android with triangle, then press together Volume Up + Volume Down.
5. After that select option "wipe data / factory reset" using Volume buttons to browse option, and Power button to confirm operation.
6. Choose option "Yes -- delete all user data" and accept with Power button.
7. Press Power button to select option "reboot system now".
Best Regards,
Katy

Handset says "Out of Range". What does that mean; how do I fix it.
out of range means it can't receive a signal from the base station. The most likely problem lies with the base station. Special when 2 or even more handsets are giving this message.
Try to reset (unplug the power cord and reinsert it) the base station. When it does not come back after half a minute, the station must have a major problem.
