An 09 mountaineer won't start everything comes on lights displays etc but won't crank I've replaced ignition switch battery and terminals

The PATS anti-theft system will not let the starter engage an spin the engine around to start the vehicle if the theft deterrent module does not get correct coded value from the pats key. There is a transponder in the head of the key - when put into the lock cylinder a antenna behind the plastic steering column energizes the transponder which makes it send it's unique code to the computers on the vehicle. You have no clue what you're doing . Take it to a qualified repair shop . You would need a factory scan tool to check for codes in the computers before just replacing parts. Changing the ignition ? lock & key assemble or the electrical part of ignition switch? If key an lock cylinder the key needs to be programmed into the control modules . Anti-Theft NOTE: If the instrument cluster or the PCM (or both) is installed, the parameters must be reset in both modules or the vehicle will experience a passive anti-theft system (PATS) no-start. For additional information, refer to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset in this section. PATS consists of the following components:
  • Anti-theft indicator (located in the autolamp/sunload sensor)
  • Encoded (the key contains a transponder) ignition key
  • PATS transceiver
  • Instrument cluster
  • Powertrain control module (PCM)
PATS uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a drive-away theft. Passive means that it does not require any activity by the user. The vehicle is equipped with 2 PATS keys. A maximum of 8 PATS keys can be programmed to start the vehicle. If additional PATS keys are desired, refer to Spare Key Programming - Unlimited Key Mode in this section.

I inherited a 2004 mercury marquis and after anti theft was triggered, car won't go over 40 and overdrive light blinks

If the vehicle starts an drives, even at 40 to 50 miles per hour the anti-theft system has nothing to do with this. The PATS anti-theft system on that vehicle disables the starter from working to deterrer vehicle theft, that's it. overdrive light blinks ?? you have a transmission problem with the electronics .With over drive light blinking codes are stored in the computer . Need to hook up a professional grade scan tool an check for codes . Your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop that knows what it's doing.

03 Mercury Mountaineer right front window goes up or down sometimes only, sometimes it stopped working all together. Changed the switch and checked all the wires nothing. I changed out the main fuse.

ok if the 12vdc supply side is good and ground too.then the problem is.1: bad motor. or its gear box drive a wreck.2: bad window guides.if near RF window skins off (cards off) can you hear the motor work?)yes/no.if yes its bad or gear drive or is jammed up. bad or rusty guides.what I do is this, (too many times) want to forget them.1:; I can hot wire the motor, with 12vdc, (2 pins)unpluged it, oops silent, bad motoroops Groaning sound. , jammed up it is. (or gear box to it)motor pulled off frame and work the window updown by had, oops jammed. , if free the gear drive is bad.the motor can even be bench tested it is only a 12vdc brush motor and is a BIPOLAR motor. I could show you 10 times faster.many a time the hot wire tests work.and we find bad grounds here.or those wires that bend at hinges. bad. dang.

2006 Mercury Mariner V6 battery and indicator lights issues?

Your best bet would be to have a qualified repair shop diagnose the problem. Your vehicle has a smart charging system, computer controlled. Hooking up a factory or some other type of professional scan tool an checking for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes would be a good first step. Checking battery - cables and connections using voltage drop testing would be another good thing to do . Cables can be bad an you wouldn't be able to tell just looking at them. You might want to watch this video Comptuter Charging Systems - Ford - YouTube Principles of Operation NOTE: The information contained in this section is for Escape, Mariner only. For Escape Hybrid information, refer to Section 414-03 and Section 414-05 . This vehicle is equipped with a powertrain control module (PCM)-controlled charging system which determines the optimal voltage setpoint for the charging system and communicates this information to the voltage regulator. This system is unique in that it has 2 unidirectional communication lines between the PCM and the generator/regulator. Both of these communication lines are pulse-width modulated (PWM). The generator communication (GEN COM) line communicates the desired setpoint from the PCM to the voltage regulator. The generator monitor (GEN MON) line communicates the generator load and error conditions to the PCM. The third pin on the voltage regulator, the A circuit pin, is a dedicated battery voltage sense line. The PCM uses a calibratable algorithm to estimate battery temperature and to reduce battery damage caused by over and under charging. Using this algorithm, the PCM determines the optimal voltage setpoint for the charging system and communicates this information to the voltage regulator on the GEN COM circuit. While this is occurring, the PCM is also monitoring the GEN MON circuit for charging system information, such as transient electrical loads or errors. If the PCM senses when the charging system receives a transient electrical load (which may cause poor idle quality, such as an idle roll) the PCM can then adjust the injectors opening time to account for the transient electrical load. In this manner, the PCM can maintain a consistent idle speed. If the PCM detects a charging system error, it broadcasts a CHARGING SYSTEM STATE STATUS message through the controller area network (CAN) communication link, causing the instrument cluster to illuminate the charging system warning indicator. The charging system warning indicator is illuminated if the PCM fails to see a signal on the GEN MON circuit for a time period greater than 500 ms. This telltale is used to indicate over-voltage conditions detected by the PCM. The PCM also reduces the mechanical load on the starter by initially commanding a low voltage setpoint (using the GEN COM circuit) in order to improve start times and reduce load on the starter and its related system. Each time the key is cycled to the ON position, the instrument cluster initiates a bulb check by illuminating the charging system warning indicator. This operation is called prove-out. The PCM then issues a CHARGING SYSTEM STATE STATUS - OK message if the charging system is functioning properly. This message is sent once the engine is running and the charging system is determined to be operating correctly. If the cluster does not receive an OK message, the cluster lights the charging system warning indicator indefinitely. Vehicles equipped with a message center display CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM any time a charging system error is present. This is a System 4 charging system, which uses the GEN MON and GEN COM lines to control and monitor the charging system through the PCM. System 4 charging systems are virtually identical in design and therefore, share the same diagnostics. The circuit numbers and colors may be different, but the functions are the same. System 4 charging systems may use any type of generator, as the generator type usually depends on the engine packaging and/or output requirements versus cost.

2004 Mercury Grand Marquis how do I test Brake pedal position switch?

Place the sensor on just one of the two wires and hold the brake pedal down as you do so.Then test the other wire. If power is connected and the switch is working properly, the test bulbs will illuminate. If it doesn't light up, the brake light switch is faulty and will need to be replaced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3mvlop3-wo

1999 Mercury Sable. It starts and runs fine until it warms up.

With strangeness like that, you can only diagnose using a pro grade scan tool computer. It can even record what is happening up to and past the point where it fails to react. All the things your changed are unlikely the cause. Once the engine is running, you know the fuel system is working. The engine being warm makes no difference to how the pump runs, how clean the tank is or how clean the fuel filter is. The 'let's try replacing this' method of auto repair seldom works and is expensive. It is likely to be throttle body, sensors or computer communication issues. https://www.google.com/search?q=auto+electrician+near+me ..

1994 MERCURY TRACER 1.9 liter What is the Size and Thread Pitch/count for the thermostat housing bolts

you lost them>? take the old ones to any auto store. the rack of bolts metric are there. my guess 6mm or 8mm or 10. once diameter is found easy as pie is pitch lay the old tread against the new and they mesh perfectly or like me own a $1 pitch tool. and calipers and measure mm all day long. or buy them from Ford /mercury , pretend to buy them on line and some tell you at least diameter. and length too. just to cheap tools and no more guessing. if LOST ouch. that is harder, well a real shop has box full of metric extra bolts. and tries them 1 by 1 and the one that fits is bingo then with real calipers or a soda straw find depth. make it and then measure that, and bingo depth is known Or go ford dealer and speak.

Why won't my speedometer lights work but radio light work in my 92 mercury capri?

Is it only the speedometer light or the whole "cluster" in the dash - speedometer, tach, etc...? it could be as easy as the lamps in the cluster are burned out. If it happened over time, probably lamps. This should be the downloadable service manual for your car... good luck! https://www.allcarmanuals.com/factory-service-manual-243-Mercury-Capri.html
