Lucent was the FIRST name of
WESTERN ELECTRIC...
after divestiture (the break-up of the Bell System)...
Which means ... while
NOT YOUNG... that is a fairly
robust (high quality) telephone set... (vintage 1983).
If you use it as a
wall phone... or desk set...
It is actually IMPORTANT to have the
HANDSET HOOK set appropriately
(read the manual... (see below)).
Check the BATTERY CONTACTS and make sure
they are clean & shiny... If NOT...
Use a soft graphite pencil to gently burnish the
battery contacts.
If they are heavily corroded ... comment me back & I
will detail instructions on how to restore (or replace)
functionality...
Keep the hand-set cradle clean... and sharply
peck the
switch hook a few times to get those old contacts attention...
(technical term: cycle the switch-hook).
With a little
regular use that phone can give another
few DECADES of service...!!
