DO I HAVE TO PULL THE GENERATOR OFF A LINCLON 300D TO REPLACE THE REAR MAIN SEAL?
Yes, You will have dis mantle the front of the machine, The front control panel will have to be removed, the fuel tank will have to be removed,the exciter rotor and stator will have to be pulled, the field will will have to be removed before you can remove the main armature, which has to be decoupled, then the starter will have to be pulled, the mounting baser plate will have to be removed, which will give you access to the rear main seal, whose replacement will take about 1 minute to remove and 1 minute to install, then all that has been removed will have to be installed,check the main generator field to make sure there is no oil or oil impregnated dirt on the inside covering the pole pieces or the shunts and series coils, if there is, use a pressure washer to remove it, do not use excessive pressure or solvents or harsh soaps, keep the water stream a respectable distance from the coils so as not to damage the insulation, let the generator dry on a flat surface, in ambient temperature for a few days before reassembly take care to mark the conductors in the CV unit before you remove it, mark all conductors before you disconnect any of them Take the time to study the welder before you attempt taking it apart. The Generator is very heavy, and will swing down and be damaged if you have not balanced it with a strap before removing it. The main armature must also be balanced and decoupled taking the flex plate with it when it is removed, take special care not to damage the commutator bars when moving the armature around, best storage for the armature is standing up, flat on the concrete floor of your shop I forgot to mention that the exciter armature is held onto the main armature shaft with a tapered flange, keyed washer and a 1-1/8" nut that should be removed with an air wrench to prevent any damage to the armature shaft by the use of hammers or pipe wrenches. Damage to these machines is non forgiving, and will require purchase of new parts if caution is not exercised
