You're looking for the option to "Format" the flash drive. Plug it in to your computer, and depending on the operating system, you're going to click Start > My Computer or Compute > Then right click on the Flash Drive, it should be listed on the left hand side of the screen. Find the Format option and select it. That should delete all of the files.

Hi.. You might check to see that the external drive is actually powered up, does it need to plugged into power or is it USB connected. Try a different USB port. Go into start settings system device manager and see if the USB ports all come up ok, or if there is a yellow ? Question mark, meaning that the system isn't recognizing one or more f them (And, if that's the case, you probably need new USB drivers on the PC.. - unplug the USB device, tell windows to update the driver (or delete the bad device and reboot - windows should rebuild the USB device ))

Worst case, take the drive to a computer repair place and tell them you want to get the pictures off the drive. Unless the drive itself has died, should be able to get photos off it.

My first item to Trouble shoot i think would be your media card reader, check in your device manager to see if there are any conflicts in the driver or if a driver is even installed for it. if there is a conflict, go to your pc manufacture website go to support , drivers an download the card reader and reinstall. Also is there any data on the card? and if not has it been formated yet?

Hi there.

Connect it to pc and find it in 'my computer', open it up. Click on view/select all and move the songs to your pc. Right click the player icon, select format/FAT, ignore 'Quick format' , then virus scan all your songs, and move them back onto player.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you!

This happens to every MP3 player eventually. You will need to reset it and reformat. Sorry, there is no easy fix. The MP3 system software has crashed for an unknown reason. It happens.

Often, a crash can be caused by static that you, me, or anybody else can even detect or feel. All we can do is reset the device, format it, and install all of our stuff again. I have had this happen to Sansa, IPOD, TVIO, and others. Just walking across a wooden floor can build up a static charge in your body of over 500 volts, and you would never know it. When you hear the crackle of clothes being pulled out of a dryer, or feel the shock from grabbing a doorknob, the charge is in the tens of thousands of volts! It only takes a 50 volt static discharge to disrupt flash memory like that found in a MP3 player, jump drive, cell phone, etc....

Find the RESET button, and after the unit is turned on, hold it in with a paperclip or something similar for 3 seconds. This will return the unit to factory default, and you can reload it with all your stuff.

A good rule of thumb is that before you touch any portable electronic device, touch the biggest piece of metal that is near you, which will drain any static charge in your body. This is purely preventative, and not a fix-all, but it has helped me overall in not having so many problems with my personal portable electronics.

Good Luck, and thank You for using FixYa!

Yes, the memory chip inside it is fried. There's nothing you can do, junk it and buy a new one.

Some computers will not support a large 8GB stick. The best some will do is 2GB, If you are running a computer pre-2001, you may not be able to use the 8GB stick (I have the same problem with my desktop PC). It just is not supported!

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards

The device has "died". Spend $8 to buy a new 2048 MB (32 times larger) flash-drive.

b> b>I think it could be due to virus activity. Some virusmake the contents of the drive hidden, that's why user can't see the files and the space available for use is less than thecapacity and also can not open the drive. It issuggested that go to FOLDER OPTIONS - and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES. It may showthe hidden files. If can not show ,hidden file (tools >folder option>view> check on show hidden file>check off hide protected and checkoff hide extension) now can see all hidden file in c drive. If not think...... For ensure again run>type> msconfig > hit can not open ms config if virus effected run >type> regedit>hit>can not open registry if virus effected run >type >gpedit.msc>hit can not open group edit policy if virus effected Otherwise, ifyou don't have any vital data on the drive, just format it in another pc.Pleasenote, before insert the Pen drive .Go to run command from start menu OR Press Win key+R and type gpedit.msc and hit>Usser configuration >system>turn off auto play >enable>use down arrow key select all drive >apply >ok. Control panel>administrative tools > service>select any word in right side and presss for select Shell Hardware Detection> d -click >use down arrow key>disable >start. And now can insert pen drive and format. Hope this wouldfix the issue and . Youshould fully scan by f-secure bootable cd or any another antivirus bootable cd.Just insert the disk and restart. Follow bellow the download link. http://www.askvg.com/download-free-bootable-rescue-cds-from-kaspersky-bitdefender-avira-f-secure-and-others/ you wouldbe able to enjoy the full capacity of the disk.
