How to Fix a CD Player When It Won't Play

Although CDs are still the preferred method of audio distribution, CD players are quickly being phased out in lieu of MP3 players. If your old CD player stops working, it might be a little panic-inducing, but fear not. If the CD player turns on but does not play CDs, then the problem is not with the power cord or the circuity (which are generally more expensive to repair rather than fix) but with the lens. There are several troubleshooting steps that you can take to fix a CD player when it won't play.

Step 1

Remove excess dust from the CD player. Dust is the number one enemy of electronics, and it can corrode even the most resilient device. Make sure to dust in between buttons, knobs, power cord(s) and audio-out ports. Note: use a dry duster, as moisture will harm your CD player further.

Step 2

Use a disk-based lens cleaner to remove ground in dust or dirt from the CD player's lens. These lens cleaners look like a regular CDs, but have specially-made bushes on the reverse side that gently remove excess dirt from the CD-reading lens. Simply put the CD in your player, and press the "Play" button to clean the lens. Do not run the cleaner more than once, as excess brushing can cause scratches on the lens.

Step 3

Polish the lens. Use a glass or eyeglass cleaning solution and a lint-free cloth to gently polish the reading lens. Clean it by using a low amount of pressure and softly polishing the lens and its surrounding area using soft, circular motions. Do this for about a minute or two and then allow the player to sit for a few minutes before trying to play a CD. Stuck in safemode

Hi Irma, Shut down your computer and right as it is beginning to reboot, tap F11 to begin a system recovery and take your computer back to its factory settings. This may help, and it's worth a try. By the way, this is for Windows operating systems. I have no idea if this works for a Mac. Also consider that you may just need a new computer if you try this and it is not successful. Good Luck!

Pin connection front panel power switch

The only place to get it is from IBM, as it was designed specifically for them to go in their ThinkCentre A50 line of computers.

The link for the User's Guide, which is what I presume you need, is:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-55533

If, instead, you want the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it can be found at:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-55532

Finally, if all you desire is the Quick Reference, go to this link:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-55534

Now, just to be complete, though I doubt this would do anything to help you, here is the Setup Poster:

The computer turns on and

It sounds as though you have a faulty hard drive. The system recognizes that your hard drive has a problem, and is unable to correct it. Unforunately, there is a very, very low chance that you will be able to get any data off of the drive.

Contact Lenovo; if you are still under warranty, they will walk you through steps in order to determine if your hard drive truely is defective. They will also be able to replace your hard drive and reinstall the operating system at no charge.

If you are not under warranty, you will have to take your laptop to a local computer repair shop, or use a service such as Geek Squad, and have them replace your disk (for a price).

I've purchased recently a Lenovo

Hello,

This isn't a hardware problem. Sometimes, it has to do with the jack of your headphone. These jacks looks the same but they have different heads. We have 3.5mm jack and 3.0mm jack. So try other headphones on the Lenovo G465 and see if there would be any changes.

If there is still no changes, then you can try the alternative;

On a typical laptop running Windows, left-click on the double chevrons of the "Show hidden icons" button in the Quick Launch toolbar at the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will display all your hidden quick-launch icons, and usually these will an include an icon of a speaker that launches the "Volume Control" utility.

If not, then you can also access the Volume Control utility from the Control Panel, via the "Sounds and Audio Devices" application. Simply launch that application, click on the "Volume" tab, and click on the "Advanced" button in the "Device volume" section.

In the Volume Control utility, click on the "Advanced" button near the bottom-left area of the window. Near the bottom of the advanced controls window, there will be a section labeled "Other Controls." Here you should see some kind of check-box option labeled something to the effect of "PC Speaker Mute." If you check that box and save your changes, the laptop's speakers will be shut off, but you will still be able to listen to any music or other sounds through your headset.

It's as simple as that. To cancel the shutoff, simply uncheck the box and save your changes. This method works for all versions of Windows still widely in use.

I hope you understand the above.

Good luck.
