Pen won't work on Quantum Leap Exporer Globe
ok, last night I was doing some research on my daughters leapster, its not a quantum leap, but maybe can be fixed the same way. I found out that you can "recalibrate" the machine. I used the instructions for the leapster, but here is what they said about the Quantum:
Turn the power on. Wait until you see the "Home" screen.
Find the small hole in the back of your Pixter unit above the battery compartment door. That’s the calibration hole.
Insert,
push and hold the stylus in the calibration hole. Turn Pixter over so
that you can see the screen. When you see two plus signs, remove the
stylus from the calibration hole.
First touch the plus sign in the upper left corner with the tip of the stylus.
Then touch the plus sign in the lower right corner with the tip of the stylus.
GOOD LUCK, HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU, I ALMOST THREW MINE OUT TOO AND NOW IT WORKS.

Our leapster 2 has sound
I checked the warranty and it is only 3 months.
Unfortunately, your warranty period has expired since it is 2 years old.
In my experience it is tough to convince the manufacturer of electronic toys to service such products after the warranty period is over.
But you could try to contact the Leap Frog people to see what could be done.
Screens that are dim indicate to me that the electronics are burnt out somehow, but parts are not available to the public in these instances.
Perhaps the best thing would be to replace the product with another, if it is still manufactured and available, at say, a major retailer like Walmart.
Good luck.

Screen calibration doesn't work on Leapster 2.
CALIBRATION - summary of hints from here that eventually got our circa 2007 green leapster's screen recalibrated - in no particular order: 1) "home+hint+B" to get started, 2) "A" button next, 3) cleaned dirt from the gap between the plastic and the screen all the way around with a toothpick (seemed to be the KEY ELEMENT to get everything else to work), 4) be patient and keep trying until you see the targets - the first one should appear in the top left corner while the text is still on the screen, 5) if it doesn't work just right the first time try again, 6) unit should beep each time you press a target center.

Leapster L-Max with No Sound
We had the same problem and I found the speaker was broken. Radio Shack part # 273-0092 is almost a direct replacement. Under $4 and works like new now.

LCD screen lights up then goes dark.
seems like a bad connection inside maybe the ribbon cable is a little loose (from being dropped, movement from playing etc...) if its under warranty i'd send it in to get fixed if its not then you have nothing to lose taking it apart yourself (with no power supplied to it of course) and see if you can find anything loose. If the game is still visible and the wires are seperate i would check the ones leading to your backlight.

IS there a replacement screen for the leapster 2?
I've looked all around and can not find a replacement screen that you can buy. If you have a warranty on it, you may want to use it. If you do not, try contacting LeapFrog and see what you can do.
Their contact site is http://leapfrog.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/leapfrog.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php
Their phone number is : 1-866-334-LEAP (5327)
Hope this helps. =)
