How to clean them
Clean your air tower fan by using small paint brush and wet rag(s). Turn off power and unplug, then open the fan by using screw driver either flat or crossed type. Eliminate dust and dirt using paint brush and rub it with wet rags. When disassembling put screws in box and be observant so that you'll able to assemble it later. Do not wipe motor with wet rags only the propeller, front back cover and so on.
Good luck.
Quick Flipoff
The air intake vents in the rear were clogged with dust. They needed to be brushed and vaccumed.
We have 3 lasko tower fans purchased at different times that all quit working the same day
Seems like the height of coincidence. I would want to know why and if there is a common cause.
A common cause could indicate a supply problem, perhaps surges or transients, maybe there is a design fault or a poor quality component has been used. If this is so there is possibly a lot of negative feedback you could post unless you get some free or heavily discounted replacements.

Lasko E20739 Fan
It sounds like the electronic controls have put the fan into "breeze mode". The fan turns slowly then is supposed to surge back to high. Some people love this feature for some reason...
Disable breeze mode via your remote (its the button with the stacked ~'s).
A bad motor wouldn't rotate at all. The only other problem might be the motor's running capacitor. If you can start the fan in either direction (give it a hand spin in the opposite direction of rotation) you have a bad capacitor...and you can find a replacement anywhere (Radio Shack).
