These use two of the L44 common button battery. The + sides of the battery (flat) goes towards the body ... the bump goes towards the battery holder. Check the contacts on the body and where the threads (-) contact the body. Not voltage, no work. Assuming you have 4 different batteries, can you check the batteries ? One bad one of two will not allow voltage. I have bought new button batteries that were dead right from the package. Strange two cameras are dead. They have electronic shutters. Most cameras, when set to automatic, will pop up the flash, when the lights are to low. As soon as you switch to a manual setting, with Aperture or shutter priority, the flash should stay where you put it. Down and if should not give any light. So check your settings and don't use Automatic or P(program)

Usually this is caused by a failure of the aperture unit in the bottom. There are a bunch of gears and one has a plastic post molded onto it. The post stops the gears from turning when they have returned to the start position after firing a shot. The plastic is too soft and the post wears away, causing the gears to go too far, and jam the unit. Obviously, due to the age and the fact that Minolta is out of the camera business the part is not longer available

Remove the lens and then look through the viewfinder at a blank wall or out a window (not directly into the sun!). Do you still get the red hue? (Nothing will be in focus. Don't worry about that. We just want to see if the color is still there.)
