Unfortunately, Kobos weren't designed to replace the batteries. Short of buying a new eReader, reading with it plugged in is the only way around bad batteries.

Move the on/off slider to the right and hold it there for at least 10 seconds before releasing it will turn the Kobo off. Any less than that and it goes to sleep.

One way is to use a program like Calibre on your computer. When the Kobo is connected, you have access to the books on it and can individually delete them.

No menu required. Just use two fingers on the screen and slide them apart. Be careful, it's easy to get very big, very quickly. To get smaller slide two fingers together on the screen.

On the top of the e-reader, to the left of the on/off slider (looking at the screen) there is a push button on/off switch for the light. Once the light is turned on (and there is a 'star' symbol on the screen, the brightness can be adjusted by touching the 'star' and using your finger to slide the brightness control).

Assuming the book is in .mobi format, use a program like Calibre to re-format the book to .epub format. (Open Calibre, then add the .mobi book to the Calibre library, then convert it to .epub) Then use this same program to send it to your Kobo. (If the book is already in .epub format, you obviously don't need to re-format.)

You can access the battery on most tablets by GENTLY prying in the tiny groove around the edge. Pry clear around until the glass is separated from the tablet. The battery location should be apparent.
