I hve a number J90 on my detector what that means
Kidde AC Plug in Operated Carbon Monoxide AlarmKN COB LCB
The above link is to get a copy of the user guide. However, it does not show anything regarding an error code J90...in fact, I can find no reference to this code on the Kidde website. You would be well-advised to call their support number or contact them through their website: "Call our Product Support Line at 1-800-880-6788 or contact us at our website at www.kidde.com". If you get a definitive answer it would be nice if you would post it here for others to see. Thank you.
4 beeps with pauses for 2 year old carbon monoxide detector
I'm pretty sure that indicates an alarm. The pattern is referred to as "temporal 4" which is the alarm pattern for CO. Either your device is in a bad place or there is an intermittent CO leak which is exceeding the ppm (parts per million) threshold for a given time period. The instructions for the device will tell you what that number is. If you have more than one of these, I would try swapping them to determine if the problen is with the device or the location. Good luck!
My alarm beeps at night for a short period
if it is about a smoke alarm with a battery in it, when the alarm beeps for no apparent reason, it is a bult in indicator that the battery is flat or approaching a low voltage and needs replacing
If it still beeps after replacing the battery have it checked out as a fire alarm is critical for your safety
I have model kn-cob-lcb-ca...it does
send the detector back and have it replaced,
The CO sensor will not alarm to levels of CO below 30 ppm and will alarm in the following time range when exposed to the corresponding levels of CO: 70 ppm CO Concentration 60 - 240 minutes 150 ppm CO Concentration 10 - 50 minutes 400 ppm CO Concentration 4 - 15 minutes The alarm shall include a piezoelectric horn that is rated at 85 decibels at 10 feet. When the unit detects carbon monoxide, the alarm pattern will be four (4) short beeps - followed by five (5) seconds of silence - followed by four (4) short beeps. The unit shall incorporate 2 LED's. You can probably find the manual for your device at this link:

Smoke detector looks burned
Air may flow through the unit if you don't have a vapour barrier wrapped around the electrical box in a ceiling with an attic above. The smoke detector may look smoky and it may have come from cooking grease in the air. This may foul the smoke detector. All smoke detectors have a piece of radioactive americium-241 that creates ions in an ionic chamber. This chamber has to be pristine. That is why smoke detectors have a replacement date on them. It may be time to get another one. Some kits come with a cardboard baffle to stop so much air sucking through the unit.
