Have you tried the key directly in the lock? If not can you access the boot from in the car behind the seats? Get in and free the lock that way.

The switch that is activated when the transmission is placed in reverse may be bad or is not being depressed. I would remove the console around the shifter and check that first. Or better yet, get a Haynes manual or some sort of service manual for the item you are trying to fix.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved from Computers and Internet. Magic word is 'Golf' Yes according to this it takes a 24 volt Lithium battery. Fortunately putting a 12 volt battery in won't have damaged it where as 24 volts into a 12 volt system will. Take it to your local golf retailer and they will know someone that can diagnose and repair the electronics. I presume you checked the battery had a full charge. Try some simple checks first. Take a good look underneath the cart to check there is nothing trapped underneath like a stick or something else. Sometimes it is as easy as that. Is the scraping a metallic grinding or a deeper rumble? Is it an even constant sound or a 'On-Off' repeating noise? Constant suggests a bearing or something rubbing. An 'On-Off' sound could be something has bent or warped. If you can, chock the front wheels and Safely raise and support the rear end. If it has a neutral or a 'Freewheel' select that setting. Turn the rear wheel by hand and listen. Repeat this on the other side. This should give you an idea as to which side the issue is on. If the sound is both sides it could be an issue with bearings or gearing on the gearbox. Working one side at a time, remove a wheel and check the rim or tyre isn't rubbing in the wheel arch.
