I do not know what efforts you made to prime the pump. 1- Make sure that the water faucet is open. Use a hand pump to push water into the pump. You can use a syringe or a hand pump. Just in case somebody else comes looking for this answer. I had the same problem and finally fixed it by unplugging the unit for a bit (don't think this helped) and then simply turning the knob to steam until it stopped. Then it went into the normal standby mode. I think I must have missed the last step in one of the cleaning programs or something.

not if it never did it before when you draw off hot water , there is normally fresh water let in to keep the unit full this cold water hitting the boiling water will produce steam which is allowed to escape hence the noise.
