Is the PTO disengaged? Some of them have a pto neutral switch which keeps the tractor stationary when engaged and others allow you to move while pto is engaged. Depending on what you have will determine what happens. Also check the trans fluid and clutch adjustment.

Sounds like a bad carb. I would try cleaning with car cleaner first, follow up with a simple rebuild kit where you replace throttle needles, idler. Most likely caused by ethanol gas. it gum up the carb very easily and if you let the unit sit for any length of time it sure to happen. Make sure gas is ethanol free and use a stabilizer in the fuel if you are going to park it more than a week at a time.

Hello Travis,

Was the hole always there, as in a manufactured hole, or are you describing a break in the housing?

You can remove the cover plate to examine the gears for damage, or take it to a qualified Deere service center for diagnosis.

Russell if you truly want to figure out this problem you need to look at the wires and ware they connect .And what they connect to then drew your own wiring diagram its not that difficult if you break down and do a few tests with an OHM meter to see what is connected and what happens when you through a switch or run a jumper wire to a ground .
If you think about its not really that complex .
