2000 Jeep Cherokee will shift into reverse, but won't drive in reverse.

VIN, 1J4FN2? (S engine code) is 4.0L I have USA service manuals if in USA why not say so? ok i decoded much of that, USA code 1. N = Cherokee 4X4 (RHD) mail version of car RARE S= enigine 4.0L in line 6, the best engine they ever made, IMO 8= 4doors now what box is there ,real names mater first 2000 A/T box and TC failures. post what it does good and bad,. in all gears. first. check fuses first check ATF levels, hot ,idle in park. Low<<<X>>>>Hot between the marks, never over hot mark scan the PCM, P0740, is not the cause. TCC is only enabled, (clutch lockup) moving fast in top gear but yes a TC can FAIL hard (deep inside it) and lockup. but not told you at all how car drives in DRIVE or PRNDL (low) R,D and L. car does in all those, and told D OR L. to diagnose any car , the good and bad must be told(test driving car) PRND123 (the books shows all this) 740 is moving fast code and is not for reverse ever (as it happend) Torq Con Clu, No RPM Drop at Relationship between engine and vehicle speeds Lockup it means ,you were driving fast and TCM commanded lockup and the RPM did NOT DROP and is TCC lock up failure and those we fix last after all else works, R, 1,2,3,4 gears The TCM is not a genius, at all it will not know every kind of failure but you do testing the car. and not told yet all modes of driving results. this car had 2 transmission A/T used 30RH , 3speed for 2.5L only AW-4., bingo 4speed 4liter box. The AW-4 is a 4-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission .means TCM shifted. learn to scan transmission as it fails, or you miss the boat. make sure the gear shift in fact selects the side lever on the transmission correctly, and not bad ,broken bent or misaligned. does A>T box fail in all DRIVE modes 1,2,3:? not told at all what all gears to good and bad a car this old ,will need the pump pressure ports checked to make sure pump pressure is in spec. in all gears. all modes PRNDL123. per the manual use a very high pressure gauge 300PSI. all transmissions shops have and use it . page 21-241 up in the SM book, real D= 61-to-70 psi (hot idle) D= 173-to-209 ps (WOT)right foot stomp. 3sec.max. test. R= 75-to-90 psi idle R= 213-to-263 psi WOT 3secmx. that is spec, and if below spec the box is bad. pump and or a zillion leaky seals inside that happen 22 years later. test port left side front. per age 241 that is it all on car testes, (most) what does DRIVE do.?

2003 Jeep Liberty V6. Please I'm in need of advice.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to model category. All windows have fuses and relays, but your issue just sounds like a battery that doesn't have enough volts and amps to pull the solenoid on the latch. If you can afford a new battery, buy a battery charger for 25-30 bucks. Try this, Put the battery charger leads on the battery connectors, red to plus and black to minus. Tape the charger clamps down. Turn the charger on. Undo the battery clamp nuts and lift the connectors off. Clean the posts of the battery and inside the clamps with sandpaper. Clean with a cloth, and smear them with Vaseline. Put the clamps back on and tighten them up. The reason you do this is so that the power to the engine computer is maintained to you also keep the anti-theft system immobilizer connection alive. Charge the battery overnight. Then try your locks and windows. https://www.walmart.ca/browse/automotive/automotive-tools-equipment/car-battery-chargers-jump-starters/car-battery-chargers/10016-6000198733006-32165-6000198738263 https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/best-car-battery-chargers/ ..

There is a noise in my jeep Cherokee 2013 when u take off with little high acceleration but it stops when you drive for some few meters. What is the cause

The most likely cause of the noise is that your drivetrain or transmission components are worn or out of alignment. This could be caused by a damaged or worn U-joint, worn bearings, or a misaligned drive shaft. To determine the exact cause of the noise, a qualified mechanic should inspect your vehicle and diagnose the issue.

97 jeep jz 2 wheel dr 4.0 starts stalls

I HAVE THE BOOKS OEM SERVICE MANUALS AND OWNED MANY JEEPS 1988 TO 2010 AND 1999 IM GLAD you never messed with CKP the crank sensor as it must be calibrated, or is wrecked doing it wrong. THE cmp DISTRIB BASE SENSOR IS ONLY FOR INJECTOR SYNC,NOT SPARK TIMING AT ALL. AND IS LOCKED IN PLACE THIS YEAR. spark timing is via CKP cranked.and running. still have both PCM's? that stalling has over 50 causes. EFI + engine. CAN NOT SAVE THE STALL WITH FAST RIGHT FOOT ? ZJ = GEN1 GRAND CHEROKEE IS IT USA SPEC CAR? WITH ANY CAR LIKE THIS WE DO THE TESTS IN THE CORRECT ORDER, TO SAVE LABOR,MONEY AND DOWN TIME. a scan tool pays for itself first time used CHECK ALL FUSES FIRST. A 20 CENT PART, STEP2 SCAN THE PCM THE OBD2 16PIN SCAN PORT. SEE ERRORS CRANKING AND AT STALLS.??? 1997 CARS ALL SCAN IN USA BY LAW SO SCAN IT. SEE LOST SPARK, CKP ,CMP OR OTHER ERRORS THOSE ARE REAL, AND MOST NEVER BE IGNORED , WHY FOLKS FEAR A CHEAP SCAN TOOL IDK.? IF YOU GET DTC ERRORS FOR ASD RELAY DROPPING OUT THIS CAN BE JUST SIMPLE SHORTED INJECTOR OR SHORTED O2 SENSOR OR SHORTED SPARK COIL. or a dead CKP. CAR IS 26 YEARS OLD AND WE DO A FULL COMPRESSION TEST NOW, 150PSI AND UP ALL 6 CYL. DONE WOT, WIDE OPEN THROTTLE. THEN CHECK FOR SPARK ON ALL 6 IF ASD DROPS OUT FUEL AND SPARK GOes DEAD. IF SPARK IS AlWAYS DEAD, CHECK SPARK AT THE COIL DIRECTLY, USING TEST SPARK PLUG THERE. if spark lasts say 3 seconds well that is ASD dropping out or.. NEXT IF ALL THAT IS OK WE USE TEST FUEL WE USE A CAN OF INSTANT START FUEL AND AIR FILTER OUT SPRAY IT 3 SECONDS INTO MAIN INDUCTION AIR HOSE. THERE. AND CRANK IT. IT RUNS FOR 3 SECONDS EACH TRY. AND ENGINE SOUNDS GOOD. BUT IF ASD DROPS OUT , WE MUST FIND OUT WHY NOW. CKP PROBLEM THIS YEAR IS HALL SENSOR VERY POWERFUL, MOST JEEPS THAT RUN FOR 1 SECOND THE ASD DID DROP OUT. SCANS TELL YOU IT DID. BAD RELAY OR ANY SHORT ON OUTPUT OF ADD. OR IF PCM SEES SPARK DEAD AFTER STARTING ENGINE IT DROPS OUT ASD. THIS KILLS FUEL DEAD TOO, AND PREVENTS FUEL FIRES IS WHY. IF ALL ABOVE IS OK WE TEST FUEL PRESSURE LAST TO SPEC CRANKING. THE JEEP MAY HAVE IMMO LAMP ON DASH GLOWING WRONG, AND CUT FUEL DEAD. CHAPTER 8Q IN JEEPS SERVICE MANUAL titled Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) VTSS tripped does engine no run feature. I bet it drops out ASD in 1 to 10 seconds, as most cars do ,IMMO not happy. if not happy horn honks, if you car has VTSS.(it is an option 1997) IF THE CKP IS BAD, PLEASE NOTE THE NEW SENSOR HAS 2 THINGS, THE SCREW HOLE IN IT IS SLOTTED, TELLING YOU, GEE IT MUST BE CALIBRATED AND THE NEW SENSOR HAS a GAP SETTING BUFFER STICKER ON THE TIP.(BS) if installing a used CKP sensor, the sensor is destroyed at first crank and ASD relay drops out. this BS buffer sticker must be there at install., must. ckp-undefined-undefined-0_4.jpg not a guess ,not saying I know what is wrong? yet but I did tell what tests to do to find it and i sure can do it.

Hex size brake calibar to take it off

The hex size to remove the brake caliper on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee is typically 17mm or 11/16 inches. It's important to use the correct size socket or wrench to remove the brake caliper, as using the wrong size can cause damage to the caliper and/or the brake system. When removing the brake caliper, it's important to take the proper precautions to prevent damage to the brake system and ensure safe operation of the vehicle. Always support the caliper with a wire or a bungee cord to prevent it from hanging by the brake hose. Additionally, it's recommended that you work on one brake at a time, so that you have a reference point for the position of the caliper and the brake pads.

Heat wont heat up, just replaced thermostat.

There are several possible reasons why you may be experiencing cool or no heat in your 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo after replacing the thermostat and bleeding the air out of the lines. Some possible causes could include:
  1. A malfunctioning blend door or actuator: The blend door controls the mix of hot and cold air that is directed through the heating system. If the blend door or actuator is not functioning properly, it may cause a lack of heat.
  2. A clogged heater core: The heater core is responsible for transferring heat from the engine to the cabin of the vehicle. If the heater core is clogged, it may not be able to transfer heat effectively, resulting in cool or no heat.
  3. A faulty thermostat: If the thermostat was not properly installed or is not functioning correctly, it may cause the heating system to not work properly.
  4. A problem with the water pump: The water pump is responsible for circulating coolant through the engine and heating system. If the water pump is not functioning properly, it may cause a lack of heat.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L Hemi service 4WD System problem. Jeep shifts into 4WD Low while driving, all on its own.

okay not one word what the tires of the car are rolling on dirt or ice. or raw hard pavement nor the exact control settings are set. the jeeps have many 4wd options new, (I have 2020 here)and I have full factory service manuals on all GC. made. gen 1,2,3. most have Three levels of 4WD. 2005 to 2010 same as mine. came with 2 choices new of transfer cases not told by you at all. lets do both and answer what THEY DO and DO NOT DO. nv140 The NV140 Quadra-Trac I (no part time modes) and uses brakes top stop tire slip. (smart) is a single-speed transfer case and it is used in the Quadra- Trac I Full-Time 4-Wheel Drive System. It provides full-time 4-wheel drive. The transfer case operates with an open center differential dividing engine torque nearly evenly with 48 percent of engine torque to the front axle and 52 percent of engine torque to the rear axle. SO NOT YOURS yours is this, read the users guide on 4wd low limits. nv 245 has ,Quadra-TracT II and Quadra-DriveT II systems. 4wd low and lockups up the center differential. and is not for pavement. (lacking ICE covering) 4WD Low, which multiplies engine torque 2.72 times and locks the clutch pack for maximum traction at all times key word LOCKS. this for offroad and or ice only. not for pavement. do not use Low. or any kind of part time 4 wd modes, on pavement free if ice. (no matter the car owned) or you windup the axles and steering fights the driver. and is very dangerous to do and makes ABS go nuts. etc. read page 240 in your users guide. 240 The Quadra-Trac IItransfer case provides three mode positions - four wheel drive high range, neutral, and four wheel drive low range. and The 4 LOW position is intended for loose, slippery road surfaces only. Driving in the 4 LOW position on dry hard surfaced roads may cause increased tire wear and damage to driveline components.>. bingo the D word,. if stuck in 4low move one or more tire to ice or dirt. shift out of 4low to 4hi at dead crawl speed, the slower the better not grinding teeth to deathh wins. 4low is for dirt or stuck in a snow drift. otherwise stay out of 4low https://www.carmanual.org/jeep-owners-manuals/2005-jeep-grand-cherokee-owners-manual-2983/

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6. Getting a P0320 after installing a timing chain with no start.

Question edited for clarity. The timing is messed up. Normally it has to be TDC on the Compression Stroke of Cylinder 1. It is a FOUR stroke engine so there are 4 lots of TDC. Or you lock everything using a timing kit, which locks the crank and the cam sprockets.. A P0320 code indicates an issue with the signal that indicates the speed of the engine. This means that the ECM (engine control module) doesn't know where the crankshaft or camshaft is, so it isn't able to distribute fuel or fire spark plugs at the right time.

p0320 Code - Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit
