How are you making it run now since the pedal doesn't work?
You probably should take it to a repairman/shop. When this happens, sometimes the pedal is shorting out and it kills the pedal and you will need to buy a new pedal. When it ran by itself, it might have either gotten a piece of material or thread caught in the shuttle or it might have knocked the machine "out of time" and you will need to have it put back in time so that it will run properly again. I don't know what the prices are in your area but I would imagine that it will all run about $125. Sometimes you can get a used pedal off ebay (check to make sure that the configuration of the plug is the same). Good Luck.

It is impossible for a looper to come unthreaded if you are holding one end and the other is still feeding off the spool. Somewhere a thread broke - must be either the upper looper or the needle. Try completely re-threading your machine. Many machines have an "order" they prefer to be threaded. Try starting from the right tension guide and work to the left.

when anything gets frustrating to use and is costing money , the idea is to junk it and get a new one
Buying brand name is not wise as what was good long time ago can now be rubbish
I would suggest that you spend time going to dress making meetings and get an idea from the rest as to what would be a good machine to look at
Price is not a criteria for quality, neither is weight
The major criterias should be how often it has to be repaired , parts accessibility , ease of personal maintenance and lastly the availability of a workshop manual to carry out minor adjustments
