Hi, have you thoroughly cleaned the lint and thread from under the feed plate? Also, make sure that the needle and thread are the correct threads etc for the material sewn.

There's a slider on the back of the machine. Down low, behind the bobbin area. If you put your hand back there you will feel it.

Hello, Julia -

I have not found a Janome RE1712 manual on the Janome website.

Therefore, I suggest you locate and contact a Janome dealer where you reside and ask him / her to help you locate and purchase a manual for your machine.

It may require contacting the Janome headquarters (in Japan) to find out if a manual (in English) is held in the company archives which can be scanned as a PDF (Adobe Acrobat Software required - free) and sent to you attached to an email.

Best wishes.

HI, this sometimes happens when it needs cleaning. Sometimes lint and thread gets caught underneath the sewing plate, so try giving it a thorough clean. Hope it helps.

Did you press and hold the reverse button? If you did, then some link between the button and the feed dog is damaged. That may need to be repaired by a professional. However, the parts may not be available for this machine. I have at least one source for a service manual for the 5018: https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/service-manual-janome-5018.aspx . This particular online store has some of the more common parts for the Janome 5018.

Janome has the manual for the 5018 Decor Excel on the retired machine support page: https://www.janome.com/support/retired-machine-manuals/ . This is in the right hand column under Other Machines. The current link to the manual is https://www.janome.com/siteassets/support/manuals/retired/other-models/inst-book-5018-ennose.pdf . The Reverse button is described on page 7 (page 18 of the PDF).

I hope this helps.

The Janome JD1822 has a reverse button on the right side (motor section) of the sewing machine. It's roughly on the same level as the sewing bed below the stitch width indicator window. Press and hold the button for the entire period that you wish to sew backwards.

The manual for the Janome JD1822 is available from Janome on their retired machine support page: https://www.janome.com/support/retired-machine-manuals/ . The link for the JD1822 is near the bottom of the list of Other Models in the right hand column. The direct link to the manual is https://www.janome.com/siteassets/support/manuals/retired/other-models/inst-book-jd1822-enfr.pdf . The position of the reverse button is shown on page 4 (page 6 of the PDF). The use of the reverse button is on page 20 (page 22 of the PDF).

I hope this helps.
