In a pearl row it says to work in reverse at st. What does "reverse" mean?
( It is having me change from circular needles to straight). Don't know why.
Reverse is working in the opposite direction. That's not as obvious with circular needles so it makes sense to me to switch to straight needles. When you finish the previous row, do not turn your work. I'm going to give directions for right hand; turn it opposite for left hand. To start the reverse row, stick the free needle, in the right hand, into the work in the normal way for a stitch (in back for knit, in front for purl) and execute a stitch as you normally would, pulling it onto the right hand needle. You're doing regular knitting, just in the reverse direction.
Hope that makes sense and helps.
