Skips when playing CD or DVDs
First try a cd head cleaner. It has to work well enough to ffwd to track 4 or as instructed. If that does not work you need to open the case. Unplug power as the laser can blind you. 5 screws on the back and one each side. Lift the lid from the back to about 30 degrees and pull/ wiggle it off. Use a cotton bud wetted with alcohol (Isopropyl or surgical). You need to wipe the glass lens very very gently. wipe dry with other end of cotton bud. Recover and try.
While covers are off look for bulging capacitors or signs of black overheating.
DVD NOT RECEIVING DVD DISCS
HelloThe loading mechanism has the trouble. The inserted CD or DVD does not engage into the laser assembly unit properly. It may be due some fault with its loading motor or loading belt. Check these.
Remote control only works intermittently
Maybe your remote control experience some accidental dropping which can developed cracks on board or cold solder on some parts specially the Infra red LED terminal. try re soldering ..
My receiver loading for a while then is saying
I had a similar problem:
Found two failed electrolytic capacitors on the powersupply of the DMR unit
(One was 1000 microF, the other 2200 microF) Can tell by the tops being slightly bulged out instead of being flat. I replaced them both, now unit works like new.

Does any universal remote work
There are no official (or unofficial) universal remote codes for Jamo DVD players or any Jamo product.
The actual universal (and one-for-all) remotes are available, but there aren't any preset codes for this brand or model unit.
My JAMO DVD player spins
The laser is probably on its way out if it is not recognising DVDs. Unfortunately this is not an economical part to replace, and cannot be repaired (cleaning it may help with a CD/DVD cleaner disc but there are no guarantees on reliability).
Depending on the age of the player, and taking into account the fact that Blu-Ray players (with DVD playback support) are becoming cheaper to buy, while repairs to existing older models become more expensive, and with parts not always being available, it might be cheaper and easier to buy a new player whenever you can.
You can submit this unit to a service repair centre in the meantime if you wish and obtain a quote on the likely cost(s) (as well as a second opinion from there) by all means, then you can decide afterwards what course of action you wish to take. Up to you, but I don't believe this unit would be economical to fix or particularly reliable in the long term.
