hi Helen, firstly the scooter will lock up after a couple of metres , that is by design to stop you rolling down a hill etc .. Now if the scooter is hard to push even in freewheel, means the brake has either decided to seize (lack of use , been in storage ) or has become damage. The mechanism for releasing the brake has become damaged . brake removal recommended then try to push the scooter , if it 's okay then its the brake if not , it could be the coupling between the motor and gearbox has failed or the gearbox itself has a issue,. hi, that is common with those scooters, Galaxy, Invacare Meteor all suffer similar problems once they get to a certain age, it's simply the electronics on the Tiller circuit board behind those buttons values changing ,changing the way the Tiller acts. such as the battery lights etc . By turning off and on you resetting the board until the components start to change values once again, it can be a bad connection with the red and black wire in a transparent plug , the pongs may need cleaning but should be done with care. Mine is an Invacare M51 Pronto Surestep with an onboard Winsunny battery charger. My charging lights are solid red and green/ yellow. Depending on if it is charging or not. What kind of charger do you have? I have to replace my charger because it is not working. My green light is staying green while charging even though my joystick is showing my batteries are depleting and I just got new batteries. sigh.

It can be done, but, the work needed to do it will be major and expensive. I would suggest you replace it with a slightly larger scooter that is already fitted with the larger wheels. If cost is an issue scooter retailers will consider a part exchange for a new or reconditioned replacement. The L-3 is designed as a 'compact' portable scooter designed to fit in the boot of a car and only used in flat areas with no kerbs. That is the main reason it is fitted with tiny wheels and almost no ground clearance. My wife uses the Invacare 'Colibri' and usually only has issues with higher kerbs. This is slightly bigger but still comes to pieces and fits into the boot of a car. There are plenty of other makes, models and prices out there so shop around until you find one that works for you.
