1986 Nissan Altima starts without issues, but within approx. 3-4 min the engine begins to idle roughly and, then it dies

this could be due to a dirty throttle body. Remove air intake pipe and clean throttle body with carburetor spray and tooth brush. Check plugs as well as filters

Intermitent wipers not working, all other postions work fine

rain sensor on windshield below rear view mirror may be the cause. put a jumper wire across 2 center termals of the 4 wire connector (black and black/white wires) if system works now you could leave in the jumper. or get a new rain sensor, after you check and verify power at yellow wire with key on . hope this helped

How do I remove Linseed oil over spray from off my car wind shield ?

Hi, Immediately, keep the car out of the sun. Linseed oil will harden in the sun and heat. Wash the screen using cotton cloth with a drop of white spirit and then methylated spirits.Clean the wiper blades the same way. Dry and polish the screen with a clean dry cloth. The same for the wiper blades. Repeat if necessary. Dont soak anything. These solvents are flammable.

I read the answer for the 1955cadillac oil pan gasket. This gasket is made up of 4 pieces. I'm really concerned about the edges sealing so there is no leaks, any tips for this type of gasket?

Pressed steel cover gaskets of all sorts produce sealing problems in abundance, especially when cork gaskets are used. Multi-piece gaskets are used where the designer has saved weight and cost by such innovations as shortening the crankcase and deepening the oil pan and at the same time increased the chances of oil leaks. The ends of multi-piece gaskets can be sealed with a dab of a high quality rtv silicone sealer or an adhesive sealer such as one of the special Bostik range which has been recommended by so many vehicle manufacturers.Beware of using an excessive amount of sealer because as much squeezes inwards as outwards and the possibility of future problems are increased.Cork gaskets should be fitted dry to avoid the problem of a sealer lubricating the surface and the gasket creeping out under clamping force instead of being compressed. Lightweight steel covers and pans always distort around the bolt holes regardless of how gently the bolts are tightened and sometimes even a dry cork gasket will be pushed from the joint and ruined. The necessary blobs of sealer can be the death of the gasket so it is best to tighten in stages - the first stage is to merely pull the bolts down evenly so the gasket is nipped but not compressed. After about an hour the rtv will have developed a skin but will not have cured so the bolts need another half-turn and then leave the job until the cure has completed before applying the torque wrench or vast experience and finishing the job. When the steel of a cover is particularly lightweight I find great benefit in gluing the gasket to the steel with a latex/solvent contact adhesive such as Evo-stik.

The problem is most likely the caliper on that wheel is not working properly and not releasing. Have the brake system inspected by a certified mechanic.

How to tell if you have transmission issues

Few ways to tell! Generally slipping when changing gears. Maybe when driving, doesn't seem to shift into next gear for a longer period of time or not at all. Pull Trans. Dip Stick- smell burnt fluid? That's a tell tale. The Harmonic Balancer is the balance of the Engines Crankshaft internals. If bad it would cause a lot of vibration when driving. If you are feeling a grinding/vibration through the vehicle while driving and think it may be trans. You might want to check your Torque Converter (If Automatic).

What couse the blue smoke

Blue smoke from the exhaust typically indicates oil is being burned in the combustion chamber. The term blow-by refers to engine oil being pushed by the piston rings or through the valve guides. If the problem is severe, an engine re-build or engine replacement is in order. After a few miles of running, the oil has had a chance to warm up, which makes it thinner in viscosity. You may try switching to a higher viscosity oil -10-40 weight, etc. Also, there are additives sold on the market for the purpose of sealing off piston rings, etc. You can also try one of these products. Good Luck !!!!
