This is generally an indication that the DVD end of the drive is going out. First try a different or updated DVD decoding software. It could just be a simple glitch with the software, or that the software is outdated.

Best thing would be to take ti to a certified PC tech. If you really want to do it yourself, get a screwdriver and lots of patience, make sure you put back screws where they belong, connecting all the cables where they belong also. Google is your friend...

Hi, Unfortunalty this is an hardware failure there is nothing you can do. If you are under warranty i suggest you to contact the reseller/manufacturer to get a replacement unit, it should be no problem at all this is a common issue on thinkpads, CD/DVD player, HDD and batteries are the weakiest part of your system. Ususally you will receive the part directly from IBM with a explanation about how to swap it, does not requires any technical skill to replace this part ! Thanks and have a nice day J -

Wow it's been a while since I've used Lotus Notes. Under default programs, does it show Lotus Notes as the default mail program? If the bay is a DVD drive Blue Ray will work as long as you have a newer DVD decoding software. There are some decoders or codecs at IBM's support site, such as WinVid. If the codecs at IBM do not work with Blue Ray, then try download.com and search for DVD playing software.

The decoding program was apparently lost during the restore. Follow the link bellow, it will take you to the decoding software download at IBM's support site. This should correct your problem, if not let me know.

Windows XP Pro is not a problem.
First I would like you to test that DVD with other computer and see that its working fine or not.Sometime you need to clean DVD(movies) cos many scratch on it.
But if it's doesn't work then you need to do few more testing,
go to my computer and se you CDrom property that it's DVD/CD ot just CD ?

The T42 has a bulit-in wireless network adapter and a LAN network card. T42s most likely have an Intel wireless card or less likely a Cisco wireless card.
Your wireless network adapter may have been disabled in the BIOS
and/or
The drivers for the wireless network controller has not been installed.

To check the network adapter go to the Control Panel, Click on System, click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager. Then scroll down and click on Network adapters. If you don't see your network controller or you see a yellow ? against Other devices for the Network controller. Then either it has been disabled and/or the driver was not installed.

To get the driver for the network controller you need to dowload it from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site their support/download page from a computer that has Internet access. Make sure you select your laptop model and the driver for your Windows version.
Install the driver and you then need to configure the wireless adapter to suit your wireless router settings before you can access the Internet.

I do have to dig deep in my memory, but can't you format, or initialize the cardridge. I can't find the old manuals about the LTO streamers. Sorry for that.

Sounds like you need a DVD decoding software, ie... winvid, interdvd, and powerdvd. Windows media player will play some DVD's, but many DVD's, especially newer ones, need an additional decoder in order to work. You will be able to find the software at filehippo.com, download.com, or IBM's support site. Keep in mind that burning software, ie... nero, roxio, and dvd shrink, have decoders in order to burn the DVD, so they will work as a decoder in conjunction with your media player.
