Yes... or it is unplugged... or the wire is broken... Typically you hear a clicking sound at the transducer when it is powered and running but in your case all function is missing from the display and temp and depth is off of the transducer..

I would use slip rings to tie existing cable to prop motor support shaft and mount transducer to motor housing. 'slip ring'--metal ring a little bigger than shaft with a nipple the size of the cable. OR call the bird at 1-800-633-1468 or www.humminbird.com/Category/Company/Contact-Us/ and use some southern/country slang when talking. Best of luck 'you all'.

First steps (you may have done done) check all wiring connections ,transducer, power,ext. at both ends. Attempt power up again. No change. Call 1-800-633-1468 with model & serial #'s. OR Disconnect all cable connections from unit and with a strip of aluminum foil short out all the connections on the 898c.(not the cable). Attempt power up again. If unit will let you go to 'System Status' screen & record. Hope your unit works.

Best precaution is an in-line fuse of a Slow Blow 5 amp near the battery or power distribution terminal.

The signal loss is due to the transducer not in the water. Suggest remounting the Xducer an inch or 2 lower to be in water when you plane out at full throttle.
