To perform an NVRAM initialization, complete the following steps:
1 Turn off the printer.
2 Press and hold (DOWN arrow), and turn on the printer.
3 When all three status lights are lit, release (DOWN arrow) and press (UP arrow).
4 Press PAUSE/RESUME. The first item of a menu appears.
5 Use (UP arrow) or (DOWN arrow) to scroll to NVRAM INIT, and press (SELECT).

Make sure the printer is plugged into a functioning wall outlet supplying the proper voltage (110V or 220V). If you are using a surge protector, extension cable, or power strip, plug the printer directly into the wall outlet. Press the power button to turn on the printer. If the issue persists, unplug the printer and wait 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, plug the printer back in and press the power button. If the issue persists, try a different power cord (if available). To do a cold reset you power on the printer while holding down the go button for about 5 seconds and then release the button. If the button is held for more then 15 seconds it may do a NVRAM reset

Firstly go to the Start Menu, type MMC and press enter to run the Microsoft Management Console Step 2: Step Two From the MMC, select File, Add/Remove snap-in Step 3: Step Three In the left pane, select Print Management and click Add Immediately after clicking Add on the box above, the box labelled Specify Print Server will appear. As you are removing drivers from your local PC, simply click on Add The Local Print Server. This will place your PC name in the box labelled Print Servers directly below. At this point, press Finish. Step 5: Step Five Confirming that the right pane of the Add/remove Snap-ins shows Print Management, press OK to return to the main MMC screen. Step 6: Step Six This next step takes for granted you have already uninstalled the printer(s) in question from Devices and Printers. With the MMC console now open with the snap-in installed, simply in the left pane click down from Print Management, Print Servers, Your PC Name, Drivers. At this point you will be presented with a list of current drivers installed on your PC. Step 7: Step Seven To actually uninstall the printer driver(s), simply right click on the driver in question from the right side pane and choose Remove Driver Package. If you are faced with a message saying 'the following driver cannot be deleted' due to be referencing a print server, then simply cancel off the message, right click on the driver again and ensure Set Driver Isolation is set to Isolated. Usually this is set to Shared if installed centralled. Once this is done attempt to delete again. If the driver has at any time been replaced or upgraded there may be more than one variant of the driver installed, so repeat the process until all the required drivers are removed. Step 8: Step Eight Once all drivers are removed, close the MMC. Close all other programs open and reboot the PC to complete the process. In the end out of over 30 PCs with this driver installed, all of them continued to work with the exception of a couple. FIXED: PCL XL error when printing to a HP printer

I fixed this problem by installing the KB948046 Hotfix from Microsoft (thanks to Brent Follett from forums11.itrc.hp.com for pointing me in the right direction).

To download and install this hotfix, search for “hotfix KB948046” or go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948046 and click on “view and request hotfix downloads”.

You will be prompted for an email address, the URL for the hotfix together with a password will be emailed to that address.

Install the hotfix and reboot the system. The problem was fixed for me at this point.

I tried to print before rebooting, but that did not fix the problem, a reboot is essential.

I encountered this problem on a HP 2605 (laserjet) printer (HP2605) that was shared from a Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SBS SP2).
When printing from networked machines the error was printed out on the printer. After installing the KB/948046 hotfix on the server only and rebooting the server, the problem was fixed.
I also installed other updates on the server before installing the hotfix using Microsoft Update.

You arn't clear whether this message appeared with the old toner cartridge or just with the new cartridge.
If this message just appeared with the new cartridge and not the old one, take it back and get a replacement cartridge.
If the message also appeared with the old cartridge, the printer has a problem with the drum ground connector on the high voltage power supply.

That must be the Lazer assembly has a problem. If you can find a replacement your problem will go. Probably something is blocking it completely.
