Probable cause:
The optical sensor on the carriage has
failed to locate lines drawn during the
pen calibration routine. Reduce the
ambient light. If the media is not clean
and reflective, change the media. If
the lines are faint, replace the pens.
Clean lenses. Replace LED. Use the
Edge detect test, found in the service
menu, to help troubleshoot.

That is a service station shutdown failure. Replace the Service Station, if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the PrintMech PCA.

check ur iss (ink supply station) & clean them if problem persists then replaced the iss unit

To set to factory defaults, Hold power button down and press the cancel button 3x and the resume button 2x.

In some cases the hp/gl2 card may cause this error just replace it

Star wheels motor error..
Corrective Action: Try the following:
�� Switch the Power OFF from the back of the Printer and disconnect the
Power cord. Reconnect the power cord and power On the Printer.
�� Check that the Starwheel Assembly cable is not damaged and is correctly
connected to Main PCA.
�� Open the Window and check for any visible obstacles restricting the
movement of the Starwheel Assembly, then clear the obstruction.
�� Perform the Scan Axis Starwheel diagnostic test to troubleshoot the
problem further → Page 4-7.
�� Replace the Starwheel Motor → Page 8-167.
�� If the System Error continues, replace the Main PCA

You need to go to the hp download site and download the System Maintenance Utility Software. Its free, but you need it before you can clean the print heads. also, for some reason it works best when hooked to the network, not directly to Computer.

The error code 02.1:10 means the plotter has a communications problem between the main logic board and the carriage PCA. This is a service station error indicating that the printer could not move the pirnthead mechanism over the service station. First check to see if there is anything in the carriage path such as a piece of paper blocking the carriage. If there is not then it is likely a bad service station that will require replacement. Always try powering pirnter off then on to see if it was temporary error.

I recently had this problem as well and it was the service station gunked up with a bunch of ink over the years. Remove the right hand cover of the plotter. Remove the 2 screws that hold the service station in place and slide to the right to remove. When removed, take off the small motor by the gears. The rest is all plastic, I removed the 3 screws and "popped" the two black parts apart and cleaned the spitoon, which is just a sponge. I then dropped the thing into the sink and poured dishwasher soap. Let it sit for about an hour and rinse. It is really really messy. Then put the whole thing back together again. If I recall, the motor was the only electrical component.

Use care and caution so as NOT to break anything and I recall that the only electrical part was the small motor by the gears.

This wasn't so bad and I spent about 8 hours just because I was exercising much caution. If you're more mechanically inclined on the first go, then I would guess about 1 hr to clean and another 1 or two for dry time.

This SOLVED my problem and WOW there was a bunch of ink over the years. Don't worry, that is what the "spitoon" is used for to soak up the excess ink. Well, if not maintained or replaced, then the ink gunks the insides rock hard as in my case.

A new station is about $160 bucks. If you have HP install then you are looking at a few hundred more on top of that. To me, it was worth it and if it didn't work then I just get a new one and I had nothing to lose since the plotter was getting past the 21:10 error.

Be sure to download the HP Service Manual online so you know how to remove the service station. It is just 2 screws. Without the manual, I probably would have taken off many more screws as I would not have thought the service station simply slid out to the right. The designjet is well designed and was glad that I found a service manual online.

Time for a new printer. These things are just not worth fixing any more, even many of the large office units are made to break and be scrapped.

79.04 is a system error like ablue screen in windows. The troubleshooting process is very complex. Your best first step would be to disconnect any data cables and restart. If the machine comes to ready then it may be that you are sending data with either a corrupted print job or the wrong driver. If it errors even with the data cable disconnected then you will probably need to reset the eeprom. Make sure that the formatter is seated properly and all components on the formatter are seated properly.

This is problem with the starwheel assembly, make sure that there is no paper stuck under it and restricting movement. The starwheel is the metal bar and little spiky metal wheels that guide the paper.
