I have a compaq laptop

Compaq Presario V6000T now retired at HP (zero support) ok its old. 12 long years old now!@!! first learn that old laptops do not have modern wifi chips. like other PCs have, a fact. the answer is Encryption modes. WEP , WPA or WPA2. in my home we have WPA2 ONLY AT THE ROUTER. for security reasons and no old laptop works with WPA2 then learn other homes running old gear, routers. have WEP on only and most new PC have that disabled, or gone now. WEP is net secure now at all so is gone. now lets answer you in more basic forum why not learn to setup the PC and your router the correct way. if your PC only does WEP/WPA (look does it?) then in the router, turn that on. if using wep turn it on, and know that you homes router can be hacked easy. if you have WPA, turn that on, and use only that if the PC can not use WPA2. use WPA for sure, at LEAST. turn off TKIP (use AES mode) too,. im reading your PC spec now. what wifi? it has 802.11b/g in most cases we must find out what wifi chip is there. and what OS you run, you never said windows what? then get the newest driver for that wifi chip. some are not available. finding the chip true name is not easy. I can but I have powerful scanners. the cure is , use the unsafe protocol or upgrade the driver, or buy wifi dongle USB (new) and use it. easy and cheap. use WPA2 only. if wise. next time post what OS you have nobody can match working drivers lacking that key fact is this stinking XP the DEAD OS? or vista? it too is now dead.

(basics)1: most monitors will even a sign on message, with no PC.a HP logo graphic, Compaq logo shows. or some text.newer monitors show logo message "energystar" every time.then shows..... (like finding 1995 car that runs)the monitors OSD screen on most will work now.on demand !by YOU.for a few seconds, lacking a PC connection.power on and hammer the menu key see OSD.? even for 1second.This works best with working PC, the OSD will not work at all with a dead PC but some screens can be tricked into showing the OSD for few seconds at power on, no PC conn., (it's super good to know these facts, when screen is dead or partly)you asked about the magic batteries. (cake walk)well sure, all 15 year old PC have bad RTC coin cell battery on the DESK top , inside mother board.if never serviced for 15 years it is bad.replace it, (below 2.9vdc is bad battery(metered)remove it look at number and get one at walfart.2032 cells are commonexample https://www.walmart.com/search/?cat_id=0&facet=pickup_and_delivery%3AFREE+Pickup&query=cr2032+battery&typeahead=cr2032#searchProductResult(camera dept, or watches)my nice test monitor (tech)HP lE2000x (led) nice and small.power on (no PC connected)blue lamp power button glows every time it gets power.Large menu pops UP, shows scanning VGA/DVI and more for 2 to 3 secondsthen a large white menu popsand shows "monitor going to sleep" in clear English. (means PC is dead , this case missing)the blue led power lamp goes from blue to yellowand screen is now black. (all 100% normal)these are what all LCD do powered on.if the monitor is totally 100% dead all ways from Sunday, then it is. as all are now with CCLF tubes99.9% are dead, if used.the lamps last 20,000 hrs and DIE.913c8268-90a1-42b6-be05-ed78514f589e.jpg

Download driver for Compaq PresarioC700

I understand that you are unable to install Audio drivers in your Notebook.

This model of Presario has an audio controller that supports the high definition audio. You need to have Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio installed on the computer before installing the audio driver.

Here is the weblink to install UAA drivers.

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp30001-30500/sp30301.exe

Please do not click on the link. Copy and paste it in a new Internet Explorer window.

After installing UAA drivers restart the Notebook and then install Audio drivers.

Here is the weblink to install Audio drivers.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36090.exe

After installing the drivers restart the Notebook to get the changes effect.

I hope this will resolve the issue.

Thanks

Compaq presario laptop goes completely black

Are you able to go safe mode? Reboot and when the logo appears, press f8 and select safe mode. If you are able to, you might want to run a antispyware or antivirus software.

Let me know if you are able to access that.

I was downloading a program and left the room,

v5000V (now obsolete and retired at HP,no support) (tiny) 11 years old now.! (doing site searches i did find the 1 book) well good, you ran it with no main battery , very good. they do go bad often and short out inside, so leave it out until the PC runs perfect again,. ok? 11 year old batteries are well, BAD NEWS. but what does the screen do?, tell about the screen , the LEDs tell very little and get confused easy, see last paragraph below. the screen must show text that is first of all fact with fan, the fan must blow and not be packed up with lint like all are this old and never SERVICED. next is what, the RTC coin cell. will be dead. ill make a list , for you, for laptops only.
  1. big battery out, leave it out, run an AC only pack.
  2. new coin cell,? RTC ? Page 102, ,, http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00700903.pdf
  3. fan must blow, does it>??? and free if lint all vents and fan.?
  4. screen must show text turned on now, does it>?
  5. yes, good , no bad, no means CCFL dead. CCFL are backlamps and all PC this old used daily the lamps are now bad, on all of them or dim, or yellow'd or blinking or intermittent. ALL DO THAT NOW. until 2010 LED born.
  6. yes good ,you got text then we test BIOS next. page 210, "hit f10 to enter setup" < see that , that is the text you saw for 11 years but not today. that is text, and the F10 key works, and takes you to BIOS screens, does it?, if not do line 2 above.
I will stop here, no OS stated is this XP? or VISTA? after step 6 works we can do windows tests.,hdd test, etc. the first step on all HP LT is the HP long reset. (posted millions of times at real HP forum) 1: main battery out. 2: line pack AC removed. 3: hold the hp power-button for 10 to 30 seconds now run on ac only. run now? one other clue is beeps and blinks of Caplock Led keys, codes never ignore blink codes. page 13 in the above manual covers the battery lamp but the battery needs to be kept out, its 11 years old do no use it. the lamp lamp led 1 is power, (does this glow?) if not power pack issues. if led 1 blinks that means it needs the long reset above. lamp led 2, is battery , no matter, battery is out. for sure. here is dead laptop page. seem you are stuck at step 5 to me. step 11 below page, see that, it's the flash light test !@ http://pcdied.com/black-screen.html#Laptop getting the PC to boot is last, its the last in the serial chain of events. (and a whole other bag of snakes)

Compaq Presario Media Center SR1750NX - Will not

the PSU has fan, does it spin and blow. Seems to me. the PSU is bad. 5/12 is ok but there 20/24 pin connector is way more important that that legacy 4 pin . my guess is the Cd driver ejects ok. re-seated memory , i guess. (tried 1 at a time is the way !) tried in bank 0 (lowest number) one at a time. the voltage are here, do the bench test on it , all power pins. see that 3.3v? unplug it, jumper wire the correct 2 pins pin 16 to 17 on modern PCs (24pin) your PSU stays on, but some have really poor power checks. so the unstated SCREEN , with power on last. shows, no SIGnAL, no sync, warnings.? (or out of range) no text ever. on said screen. what video card is there, or is this onboard video., on mobo direct vga jack? yes it does but is there a addin video card there.? count VGA jacks, 2 means it has adding card. onboard is here. ATI Radeon Xpress 200 shared video memory (UMA) http://www.pcdied.com/power.html I think the PSU is bad, one other way it can go bad is to incorrectly time the Power _OK pin, timing.(output) see this many times, this pin tells the mobo power is ok. if it sticks at ok, the Mobo can not function, if this pin lies. the PSU tells the mobo power is ok then if the mobo power regs fail, then the mobo sends Power_on to false and the PSU shuts down. in your case the Power_ok seems stuck ok. falsely. or can be. the thing to know is the power regulators are in the PSU and the MOBO, and both must be good. or it will be dead. we bench test all PSUs and even swap them , to be sure it is ok, if yes, ok then the mobo is bad (if all loads removed first) all hdd,/dvd/cd drive. out. (cables pulled) all addin cards removed ! all of them. if present (look for them) all memory out and put back 1 by 1. RIP MOBO

Compaq Presario CQ61 will not start. Have removed battery and tried to start with just power cord. Nothing happens. If battery is installed the led with the lighting bolt will flash but laptop still w

nothing happens, I will take that as no text shows on the screen at boot (power button on ) time as it did for CQ61 is not the full model number making accurate answers x10 harder. for any helper, who knows HP gear. forget that huge battery, no laptop needs it to run on AC power. most batteries this old are bad. same with the RCT/CMOS coin cell in side. page 55 shows how to replace IT. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01740724 The big battery is ALWAYS fix last DEAL. ok? the blacks screens are 1st always, to diagnose them first. ill pretend you said CQ61-100 (not 200,300. and so on) looks like it was made in 2009 . for 8 long years , you pushed power and saw "Press the ESC key for Startup Menu" text, but today, you see 'NOTHING" (nothing is nothing) does the fan inside blow air and heard ? if not the AC pack is bad. (wall AC >>>>Pack>>>>19vdc-to-PC) so that is the black screen of deathh(sic) I call it. so if the power pack is still good, we do the flash light test. ever heard of CCFL back lamps, they ended in 2010 (see why my wanting real model numbers matter?) if it has ccfl lamps they all fail about NOW. the flash light test. http://www.pcdied.com/monitors.html#flashlighttest the black screens of ***** list is here. and tests. it has many causes. the ABOVE OR top CAUSES. ONLY THE GOAL IS BIOS SCREENS. "esc" key BIOS is first the cause of those are . here, 14 steps remove power pack, and AC pack push power button, for 10 to 30 seconds this is the HP magic RESET, (its harmless) AC PACK back in place. and to wall power hot.(means live power) NEXT , if the fan works.! if the fan does not work (say so please) and we can work that FIRST.!!! (in truth fan is first, it must blow ) ever clean out 9 years of lint inside? service it? http://www.pcdied.com/black-screen.html#Laptop most CCFL were in fact inside Old C61 PCs. most. see this? (this os folks changing them over and over) https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xcompaq+c61-100+ccfl+lamp.TRS0&_nkw=compaq+c61-100+ccfl+lamp&_sacat=0 They ended these junky CCFL in 2010, phase out. a key year to not buy PCs older that that Laptops.

Only reading half of expected value of memory installed. Have 2 512mb installed but the Bios indicates that they are each 256mb. Computer is set up for dual mode with 2 slots. I am using Windows XP PR

Most motherboards need to be told they have updated memory installed. This is either done by Contacting the motherboards manufacturer for upgraded bios that will be needed for the motherboard to receive higher RAM cards. These should be available through the "support" section of their website. If you own a Dell or HP, their bios are usually locked and must be updated this way. If your bios are "cleared" you will have full access the change the RAM MHz and RAM value settings for the board to match your new RAM cards manually. Open the PC's BIOS and search for a RAM frequency and value settings. The precise location varies depending on your system, but it's often in an "Advanced Chipset" section, on a page that mentions RAM or DRAM configuration. Modify the RAM frequency and value to match your new cards. Your new cards will have their MHz rating and size either on the box, the included paper work, or on a sticker or indicator stamp on the RAM card itself.
Exit the BIOS with the "Save Settings and Exit" option and let your computer restart.

If bios are compatible or updated and still not booting. Try installing only 1 new card into slot two at a time, leaving 1 of the original cards in slot one. Turn on the machine and go to your bios and change the values only for card 2, save and reboot the machine into bios once again. Then change the value for slot one to match, save and shut down and install the other new card into slot one.

the PC is a very old and low performance model. this old PC has no express slots. most cards sold now do not use PCI now, only PCI-E express x16 your computer so old , it does not have AGP slot. so is a relic. but there are a few remaining companies that still make them. even used PCI only VGA cards are hard to find, ' those slots are very slow as is all things there. and will not ever run fast like a modern MOBO would do ! here is one, but I cant promise your unstated Prog will like it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIACUE5MM1048 No AGP , NO PCI-Express slots at all. just old PCI (x 3) It runs 32 times slower that slot than any modern PC (express) 1220-q3ynongdx4nnghasmode251e-1-0.jpg do not expect something this old to run modern bloated apps well. it wont. nor will it ever.

Monitor went south. Replaced with

NO monitor stated, no model # of it either, 36 years of monitors there are... what is yours? NO OS stated, is this XP the virus magnet? try F8 safe mode yet, see if screen looks bad now, if it looks ok then its a software problem. disorientation? this word has no meaning at all, only your photos of it are missing only. we cant guess screens ever. (we are bind here in text) try another monitor first. easy no? if its ok, then the PC is okl if not the monitor failing is bad. all in 1min test. or , see below... there are no DLL files for monitors, only the video card has sys and inf files. called a Driver, monitors have no Driver binaries. the video card generates video only. only configuration maters. sounds like you had CRT monitor then plugged in a LCD year 2000 or newer, in the VGA jack right? if yes , all LCD can do CRT resolutions, with no issues but one, the sweet spot, called,"intrinsic resolution": stated clearly in the new monitors manual, under spec. that means,, V/H X reso, has the most clear image. the monitor does have a text file telling XP the upper limits of the resolution allowed. or if the unstated monitors is super old it has very complex text file for all the old restrictive limits on it."study old multisync monitors"? why not do F8 first.? 800x600 works on all monitors. so... if that works you know the HW is ok. just XP messed up, as all are. XP is a virus magnet and more... lots more bad. you do know XP is dead now? at HP and MS! MS shut down all support but SP3 service pack (got that? pack) do so The PnP servers at MS are now down. forever, just like w95 to w2k and now XP and VISTA are dead. PnP = Plug and Play (pray) that magic that finds your monitors name and model and the goes online and finds the rules (or a driver) from MS, (never HP) plug and play, if say you PC wonts to run 1920x1080 (like mine) but i plug in a 2000 year monitor and it can only do 1024x768 then the monitor goes nuts, all do , if XP or VISTA or older. if lucky , or not. (if you local win cache has this there, then it works) The PNP would If working ( tells the OS to not use the new resolution but to use 1024, in the stead. what does that mean , answer and simple XP cant go out to MS and get the unstated monitor, limit files. the file that tells windows what resolution to uses. or right click the desktop, and change resolution to 800x600. so do F8 now power on, hammer F8 monitor happy now. and please tell the helper what Monitor, and what OS , so answers can be 10x shorter... please.

My Compaq Presario 1700T will not play DVD

IT'S 16 years old, there is no support for it now. sorry. we get these here all the time, and no OS stated why post with out stating what OS this is, ?w98, w2k, XP, VISTA,W7,W8, w8.1 W10.? nor showing the DVD model there, it has s specific model name and number (vast types used and sold) DVD from store, or one you made or others made by hand. home made or factory made store bought DVD?' did you try this? did you try other DVD movies? or look for the VOB files on them?> Testing 123, easy to harder, 1: try a music CD first. store bought not home made. 2: look for files on any install CD, using the local file manager. my computer, this computer, or what ever ms calls it this year. we look to see if the PC can see the files on a real CD. first. even the HP install CD, or other CD that are not for music or movies, if it cant read a CD, and see fails drive is bad. or its drivers are missing or corrupted,(virus or?) 3: if this fails open the control panel, (start , CP) then look in device manager (on XP it tricky to get there so tell us if it's XP) no OS stated, so....no operating system stated. if the Device manager fails to show the DVD DRIVE, this means : A: bad. drive. B: drivers for the drive are missing (hp has them if still HP DVD drive) C: the OS is corrupted. D: running XP , the Dead OS, with out SP3 service pack 3 will be very bad experience in all ways. it has DVD driver in said pack. E: not running the HP drivers, that hp has. (but HP does not support 16 year old PCs at all) so getting them now is super hard. the users manual mentions windows 98. omg is it that old? the same manual says , only select models has DVD drive. to make DVD work , special software from HP was installed. From HP, not MS. there is a free manual for your PC https://www.manualslib.com/manual/428472/Hp-Compaq-Presario-Presario-1700.html
