Seems to be the norm.Nope, not this kid.When purchasing a Processor fan, you can purchase the Fan by itself, if you know the dimensions, and method of mounting, or you can purchase a Fan/Heatsink combo.If the Processor fan is bad, we need to talk maryscopes.In-between the Top of the Processor, and bottom of the finned Heatsink that sits on it, is Thermal Paste.A magnified view of the Top of the Processor, and Bottom of the Heatsink, would detail, 'Hills, Valleys, and Pitholes'.When you mate the two parts together, Heatsink to Processor, there are Air Pockets created by these imperfections.Air is an Insulator, not a Conductor.Thermal Paste fills these voids, or imperfections, and is an Excellent conductor of heat.IF the Processor fan quit spinning, or has slowed down, or spins intermittently, the Processor has overheated.The heat may have caused the Thermal Paste to dry up, or harden.This -> Greatly, reduces the thermal conductivity of the Thermal Paste.In fact, it will become an Insulator, and not a Conductor.
