http://www.dectrader.com/586374-001-New-HP-HEATSINK-MT-SPRUCE.html#.UBvlU6B0k9QYep. Seems to be the norm.Nope, not this kid. When purchasing a Processor fan, you can purchase the Fan by itself, if you know the dimensions, and method of mounting, or you can purchase a Fan/Heatsink combo. If the Processor fan is bad, we need to talk maryscopes.In-between the Top of the Processor, and bottom of the finned Heatsink that sits on it, is Thermal Paste.A magnified view of the Top of the Processor, and Bottom of the Heatsink, would detail, 'Hills, Valleys, and Pitholes'.When you mate the two parts together, Heatsink to Processor, there are Air Pockets created by these imperfections.Air is an Insulator, not a Conductor.Thermal Paste fills these voids, or imperfections, and is an Excellent conductor of heat.IF the Processor fan quit spinning, or has slowed down, or spins intermittently, the Processor has overheated. The heat may have caused the Thermal Paste to dry up, or harden. This -> Greatly, reduces the thermal conductivity of the Thermal Paste. In fact, it will become an Insulator, and not a Conductor. (Of heat)It is best to replace the Thermal Paste.Even if you just replace the Fan.(When you replace a Fan/Heatsink combo, it is a required thing to replace the Thermal Paste also. We'll come back to this. The easiest things to do, of course, is to replace the fan itself. The HP Elite 7000 NV525UT comes with an Intel Core i5 processor,
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5287093&CatId=4929Yours may be different model number, but I suspect it will be an Intel Core i processor, however. Plus an Intel Core i5 processor. All you have stated is HP Elite 7000.That is a Model -> series. There is a Model Number also. For HP the Product Number is the model number. P/N = Product Number. This on the back, or up on the side, in a white Service Tag.There are two processor sockets used for an Intel Core i5 processor. The older LGA 1156, and the newer LGA 1155. (Looks backwards, huh?)Good thing is, the method for mounting the Heatsink to the motherboard, is the same for both, the LGA 1156, and the LGA 1155 processor socket. This is because the two processor sockets use the same dimensions,LGA 1156,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1156You can click on the photo to enlarge it. Same thing for the next link,LGA 1155,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1155You may be thinking by now, "Man, I just want to buy a fan. Why all this 'rhetoric'?"Have to get the correct one, or it will not fit. I do not have your HP computer in front of me, and need your eyes so we together, can find the correct one.I now want to show you a couple of basic examples, using Fan/Heatsink combos. One for the 1155, one for the 1156 processor socket. This way you can look at the fans on top, and see the method they use of mounting,1)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6011698&CatId=4749See the four Philips head screws? The one to the left is pretty easy to see. There is one on the opposite corner. One at the top right, and one opposite of it.2)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7303425&CatId=6994Same method of mounting.May be cheaper, and easier, to just buy the fan/heatsink combo, remove the fan, and use it.Anti-Static Precautions:Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.Relieve your body of Static BEFORE, reaching inside that unplugged from power, computer.Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open;TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open computer case. This action will relieve your body of Static.IF you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.Replacing Thermal Paste:I will detail this out in a following Comment. For additional questions, or questions regarding the above, please post in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette
