There should be a schematic attached to the dryer. Usually they are near the control panel.

It's always best to leave the old timer connected, then get the new one and move the wires one at a time from the old timer to the new. If you didn't do that.....I don't have your model number - if you look for that - on the door or the back - maybe we can point you to the diagram. Let us know.

What are the symptoms of the fault

Drum rollers are what supports the drum when it spins, take off the back of dryer and get some WD40 or similar lubricant and spray the shaft that the roller turns on. Also check the belt tensioner this needs to be be sprayed too. But this might be too late and the rollers will need replacing.

Only if you can prove that the fire/smoke was caused by a machine defect and not a lack of cleaning the unit out once in awhile.

I can't answer your question exactly but in my experience tumble drier belts are not particularly complicated to replace but the process is fairly time-consuming and involved as in order to slip the new belt over the drum an almost complete strip-down of the cabinet is needed. It is a route-march of removing screws and plastic trim until something important falls off. The task then becomes rather more a thorough interior clean and a changing of felt bearings than merely replacing the belt. The belts last so long that by the time they need replacing the other things are also ready for attention.
