Hello. First, try to reset the control board. There are 2 buttons with arrows underneath. Press and hold them both for several seconds, maybe a little longer--this will perform a reset on the control board. See if that clears up the problem. Also, are there any lights blinking? Dishwashers will flash error codes(in binary format) by blinking certain lights in a pattern(i.e. The "sensing" light will blink 2 or 3 times, then the "cycle complete" light will blink 2-3-4 times--something like that) It could be any combination of lights depending on the component that has failed or has a problem. Components can be the drain pump, main wash motor, float switch(if present), heater circuit, inlet water valve, flood switch(if present), etc...

It is taking too long to bring the temperature of the water up to the required temperature. Defective heating element or defective temperature sensor.

Hello. Your unit is notorious for having heater and/or control problems. If the heater checks good, then the likely cause is a defective control. The heaters, pumps, valves, and other physical devices on dishwashers are controlled by relays mounted on the main control boards. These relays often fail due to age, cheap components, etc. Make sure to also check for an inline thermal switch/fuse--I didn't see one on the schematic I found on the net--heh, it was written in some sort of slavic language so I had to use my knowledge of symbols to interpret the diagram. From what you're describing, there might be an issue with the detergent reacting with something in the water. Also, check the water temperature. Any detergent needs to have HOT water--at least 120 degrees or above to activate and clean properly! I also recommend ALWAYS using the high temp wash, boost, or whatever it's called to keep the water very hot throughout the cycle if your washer has that feature.

Hello. There is a door interlock switch that allows the system to operate only if the door is closed. If this switch has malfunctioned due to age, wiring breakdown, etc, nothing will happen. I am assuming the model number you have is the HDA2000G04 because I saw where you asked the question on another website. If this is indeed the model, the interlock switch, should you need one is WD21X10261. The timer is WD21X10236. This dishwasher is also equipped with a flood switch on the bottom. Remove the kick panel and check to make sure there isn't a leak underneath causing the switch to trip. I hope I helped you!

Manual says to unplug maching from wall for at least 40 seconds to a minute. This will reset the unit. If that does not work you will need to call a service tech.

Jerry had two good First Checks with the water level and the temperature. Turn on the dishwasher and open the door after it completes filling and check the level and temperature.

A third possibility if the level and temperature are correct is that your dishwasher is not spraying enough water around. This could be due to a faulty pump, but more often I see a reduced spray from a clogged filter on the input to the pump.

You can check the amount of spray by waiting until it starts the wash cycle and open the door quickly. Water should be pouring off the upper rack and you should either have water come out of the door or have it be very close to spraying out.

Some dishwasher models have an easily accessible filter, others take some tools to get down to it.

What is the model number of the dishwasher? This will be on a plaque on either the right or left side of the door or on the top, depending on when the unit was manufactured. With that information, try http://www.hotpointservice.co.uk/manual/ if you are in Europe. In the US, GE manufactures the dishwashers with the Hotpoint name, see http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ to look up any available documentation with the model number. Shut power off for 5 min then turn back on. sound to me you have water float problem washer will stop and pump water back out if sensing flood stage food is normaly the factor stopping float from drooping back down
