Have a upright hoover freezer nextra, alarm light on, freezer has defrosted and will not re-freeze, cooling fan on.

If compressor is running, it’s most likely a sealed system blockage or leak. If compressor is not running, then could be the thermostat.

How do I defrost a HFZE54W

Hello; My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician. Most refrigerators have a defrost timer and a defrost heater, therefore the term; "Frost Free". The defrost timer turns on the defrost heater every 8-10 hours, for about 10-20 minutes and defrost the freezer evaporator coil. Of course you do not have this feature. You will need a hair dryer, a plastic spatula and some old towels. Take your time. Using the hair dryer melt the ice. As the ice starts to melt use the spatula to remove the ice in chunks. Be very careful not to use a hammer or any metal tool. You may damage the freezer liner. If that happens, moisture will get into the freezer insulation, the moisture will freezer and expand and continue to crack the liner. You have purchased a nice reliable unit.

Hi, i have a Hoover HCA 36 FT ALU fridge freezer,

Sounds like a capillary issue. The capillary tube is the metering device for the refrigerant.... a long tube with the bore measured in thousandths of an inch. If it has become restricted, it could well be overloading the compressor on start-up if the pressures on the high and low sides of the system do not equalize. In my experience, this is quite common on systems utilizing R*134A, especially if the compressor has overheated previously. You may well need the services of a refrigeration technician.
