Large Hobart mixer, leaking oil?

* Model? Check side plate or post picture so I can check. * Usually leaks are at the bearing seal(s). Replace. * Frequent seal changes (less than 1-3 months). Replace bearings and seals. * Check shaft near bearing seals for pitting (rust) that will damage seal. Remove and have a machine shop refurbish part. If possible; replace whole part and bearings. (or rebuild gear box.) * Call your Hobart service rep for a quote. * Check and replace lost oil as needed until machine is rejected (inspector, quality control, maintenance, etc.) Be careful oil does not get into food product. Hobart A200 Mixer - what exactly should the grease look like?

The grease is a toffee colour when new. It shouldn't fill the cavity completely. The older a200 mixers are usually very reliable, they need the fiber gear replacing every now and then, other than that it will run on. I've seen some out there that are almost 50 years old and going strong

Need oil/grease for Hobart 20 qt. mixer

Hi. Your A200 is in need of service. The grease's lifespan has expired. There are two ways of doing this. First, the expensive way. Call for a Hobart Tech to come and service the mixer. This will take about 4-5hrs to service at a rate around $100.00usd per hour, plus the cost of parts. He/she will need to change all seals, remove old grease and oil, check all bearings and gears for excessive wear and replace as necessary, this includes the planetary gear.

Now for the affordable solution. Unplug the mixer, remove the top cover. Gently use a small screwdriver to pry off the two circular metal dust caps found on the transmission housing, use a good flashlight to determine, through these openings, the quality, quantity and condition of the grease inside the transmission case. If there's a lot of oil you can remove much of it a bit at a time by using a wire coat hanger to which you can attach bits of cloth to absorb as much oil as you can. Once oil is removed, add new grease through these same holes until full (Chevron FM ALC EP-2, food grade lube). Run the mixer for a couple of minutes to distribute the new grease. Fill to the top once again and replace dust covers. Remove planetary, clean, inspect change seal and re-grease.

OPTION (mechanically challenging) You can do a more thorough job by removing the trans. cover completely, removing the 3 gear shafts inspect all bearings and gears, change seals on mainshaft and planetary. Remove old grease and oil, clean gearshafts and gears. Parts drawings are available from www.hobartservice.com It's free to register and then locate your parts drawings. Be sure that you have the correct files for your Model #, ML# if there is one and Spec.#, all found on the info plate.

When disassembling, take a digital photo of every step and lay the removed components on a piece of cardboard in the removed sequence. These practices will become valuable during re-assembly.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. ricardok45

I have a Hobart kitchen aid mixer and I need a Manuel for it.

Hello, Fran - The Whirlpool Corporation purchased the Hobart Kitchen Aid manufacturing unit in 1985. I suggest you contact the Whirlpool Corp. directly and ask about the availability of a copy of a user manual for your model of Hobart mixers. Whirlpool probably took over the Hobart Kitchen Aid archival records. With luck the manual you need is still in the company archives. This is the link to the Whirlpool Corp. Contact Us page: https://www.whirlpool.com/services/contact-us.html Best wishes.

I can't get the main shaft out of an A200 Hobart Mixer to service the lower bearing. Any advice?

Honestly, get someone in that knows Hobart mixers. The a200 is an amazing machine, but you will need to strip the entire gearbox apart to get to the bearings. Take this from someone who works for Hobart :)

I just picked up a used Hobart N-50 Mixer. Serial

Before doing anything else, make sure the hole in the whisk is perfectly clean by taking a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol and removing any remaining residue. It does not take very much residue to make fitting difficult. If that does not work, the hole can carefully be enlarged using a round file or sandpaper wrapped around a pencil. Do this a little bit at a time and test fitting. You will want to do the minimum necessary to get the whisk to fit.
