Hitachi Travelstar HTS541010G9SA00

Hi,

No the drive is not customized at all. It is a standard SATA Data and Power connector. However, if it was already mounted in a laptop chances are the laptop manufacturer may have put an adapter on the connector end to allow for tight right angle insertion into the laptop chassis which isn't possible with the stock connectors without leaving the drive loose in it's slot.

If this is the case grabbing the connector and pulling straight away from the drive should pop it loose and reveal the stock SATA connectors under it.

If you're having troubles removing this peice, comment back with the make and model# of the laptop it came out of and I'll see if I can pull a diagram for you.

Unusable drive with bad sectors in drives service area

I would temporarily attach it directly to your laptop and go into recovery console and do a chkdsk /r on that drive

see if that helps, if not then there are things you can do.

My laptop Acer 5102 gives me the message : NTLDR

I doubt the hard drive is at fault.
NTDLR is a file that Windows needs to "load".
Seems to me, you had an infection or made a configuration change on your computer that caused the NTDLR to get corrupted or deleted.
You need to REPAIR your Windows copy by using your Restore CD that comes with your laptop.
You don't mention what Windows version you're using.
Windows XP and Windows Vista use different ways to do this.

I have a HITACHI 60

Hi,

there are many reasons why, the computer would,nt find or see the Drive.
1:) the laptop drive, may need formatting.
2:) the drive, is not cabled correctly.
3:) the drive is faulty.

go into the bios setup, usually F2 Or esc Or Delete at setup. options sometimes appear briefly on screen. ** to enter setup press F2 Or similar**
find boot sequence or bootup order. and set the CD/DVD to become the first boot device.

Put your setup-install disk, in the dvd drive.
When rebooting the system, the computer will start a setup from CD/DVD. this will tell you that the drive is not found, or needs to be formatted. follow the on-screen options.

Finally, certain laptops only recognise, a drive of a certain size. install the original to see if this still works. Also check there are no limitation jumpers on the old-drive. ( small plastic bridging pins )

Erased hard drive, now nothing will load

Check to make sure that your Inspiron is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive.

It sounds like your laptop is trying to boot from the (now erased) hard drive first, finds that it can't, then stops without ever checking the CD-ROM drive for boot media.

At startup, hit F2 to go into the BIOS settings. Look for the "Boot Order" section. Make sure that your CD drive is listed first, then your hard drive.

Save your changes, and reboot with the WinXP installation CD in your drive. Now your laptop should boot from the CD and begin installation.

Good Luck!
