Control Panel, Computer Management, Disk Management. Check that your Hitachi disk is present. If it is present, does it have a drive letter assigned? If not Right Click and Assign Drive Letter. If drive not present you should check power and data connections.

The clicking noise is commonly known as the "click of death" on a hard drive. try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. I read a few answers to your problem, one is if it came with a "Y" style pigtail for the USB you need to connect both USB plugs,second that model has a improper alloy in its soldered connections and there is some soer of recall underway,try consumer reports for more information on the recall,mentioned something like a 100.00 refund avail. on certain models,good luck,Gary
