SATA INSTALLATION TB HITACHI DESKSTAR
I would recommend you check the website for the latest "bios" (also known as firmware) for the motherboard. Or, see their support to verify you can install a drive this large. Check the Logical Block Addressing (lba) and make sure your bios has it enabled. Older bio's offer several options ..If you need further help, contact us at

Hitachi 80GB hardrive - error 6
Install your previous hardrive as a slave, secondary drive to your new one, or easier still, buy an external enclosure for it and connect to it via usb
Burners cannot be read
Do a search for PC Fixer, a free tool. I had this problem on a Gateway I was trying to add this drive to. PC Fixer fixed the CD-ROM problem, but the drive seems to not be compatible with the Gateway for use as a master boot drive.

Hard drive installation
You need to format the drive first before you can use it. If you are using windows xp, right click on the drive E and then click on Format. You can put a check mark on the box next to quick format if you like it faster and then click on start.

Sticking?
Hi,
Most hard drives (whether external or internal) that produces a "constant pulsing sound" indicates a mechanical problem. Often this is the head arm trying to move from its position but failing to do so. What you are hearing as pulses are when it slaps back to its park position.
Should this be the case, am afraid that the HD is a goner. The normal course of action is to replace. If the data inside are mission critical, your only course of action is to avail of those data recovery by firm specializing in such but they are rather expensive.
Trying to use "data recovery software" might prove to be futile since as earlier stated, the problem is mechanical in nature.
You can of course still give it a try.
Should you feel adventurous, would be willing to experiment and gamble, pls post back as I may have not a permanent solution but a "down & dirty" trick of making it run long enough hopefully to get some of your data back. Again, this is a "hit or miss" and should only be considered if all else fails and you really want to get your files back.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

the comp detecting the HDD is irrevelant, the fact it detects it means only it has detected the electronic part of the drive, if the actual mechanical part of the drive, and the platter are failing, then it will not work, i suggest taking it to someone who can test it.. you will know then

HDD not recognised
HI
Your Hard Drive is previously formatted and have done different partition provided by your previous machine where you took this hard drive from. Use "The Partition Magic" Software, it will help you to fix and repartition your hard drive in the new format. I have this problem before and now my hard drive can connect with any computer. The key in this issue is any hard drive goes with the original machine has been formatted and do its own partition from manufacturer so if you take it out later for use with other machine, you will need a software to completely rearrange the new partition in universal format so other computers can recognize it. This manufacturer purpose to protect your data from hacking, stealing once you take it out from the original machine. That is why when you connect it to other machine, this hard drive will not be recognized. I has this partition magic software and can make you a copy so you don't have to buy it. Just read the instruction and you can fix it for both 2.5" and 3.5" HD. Please email me at
[email protected] and provide me your mailing address, I can send the copy software to you.

My harddisk doesn't turn on...
We call them in the industry Death Stars! I have had several just die on me!
If the drive does not show in the BIOS then you can't do a low level format!
All the ones that have died on me have burnt out components on there circuit boards. Way to small for me to solder! So they were thrown away!
