My Hannspree Xm-S monitor only briefly comes on when I switch on my system and then the screen goes blank. What can I do please?

Hi, If you switch the screen off and back on again do you see a picture for a second or not? If you do then I suspect a fault called "Bad Caps" which is repairable. If not then try another screen and see if that works ok.

Was recently given a hannspree sn12e2 laptop. When I power the laptop on it goes straight to a data recovery prompt that requires an Internet connection. Is there a way around this problem.

Not sure why you would need an internet connection to recover data. Maybe it has ransomware on it? There are CD's you can burn that can run a Linux environment and check fr malware. The Hirens CD comes to mind.. Try downloading it, burn to CD or create a USB install and run some malware programs on it. Or use a Windows 10 install to reinstall a new system.
