My Greenlee digital multimeter reads line voltage about twice what it is. What do I need to look for?
Is it possible you are seeing some variation on peak-to-peek voltage vs AC RMS which is more commonly used? Are you positive you were using the proper AC range rather than a DC range? Instead of double it should be more like 1.414 x the actual RMS voltage. If you were using the right range (AC) then your meter probably has an internal diode out. Because of isolation and other safety features in a VOM, factory repair may be preferable to possibly having a less safety aware tech repairing it.
Do you know what kind of meter abuse caused this damage?
Instrument repair has always been a more specialized and demanding arena of electronic repair.
If it's a $25 meter it could easily be more expensive to repair
than to replace with a new one.
This is all general information because you did not specify
which model of Greenlee multimeter you have.
It's easy to blow a VOM by putting it across a circuit when it's
set to the wrong range.

Digital multimeter
you may have to switch the leads on the meter or replace its batteries. Check the internal fuses on the meter first.
How to set meter to micro amps
i see the greek letter micro where your dial says 2,000 (micro) amps. 2,000 micro amps = .002 amps your 200 mA setting = .2 amps
How to test aa battery with greenlee dm-20
se the meter to dc volts. if is not automatic, it should be set at the 3 volt scale. Take the red lead of the meter and touch it to the positive side. The black goes on the negative side or the 'bottom, of the battery. Brand new it ill be about1.6volts+-5%. its usefullness is comprimised at 1.4 or 1.3, depending the appplication. Be sure the leads to the meter are in the correct sockets,
Need calibration coil
Where can I find a calibration coil for a Greenlee model 2003?
Or what size wire is it composed of and how long is it?
How do you change the batteries in a greenlee 1010 tester?
The black cap with pocket clip PULLS off. It does not screw on. May be tight. I used a knife to to pry between the yellow barrel an the cap, to get it started. Pull the cap off and dump the old batteries out. Dispose of the dead batteries appropriately, please. It takes 2 LR44 coin cells, or equivalent. The (+) side of the cells go into the barrel first - both with same orientation, with the (-) ends (the buttons) toward the opening. Then reinstall the cap - line it up so the clip will align with the window in the yellow barrel, then just press it all the way into the yellow barrel. Done.
Will not retract

Two different meters of the
That unit has a limited lifetime warranty, so are you sure you want to open them both up and void that warranty? I would send them both back to Greenlee for calibration and specify that they don't agree in the write up, with a known light source. Since Greenlee doesn't make their wiring and circuitry available to the general public, adjusting pots randomly is not a good idea.
If accuracy is extremely important to you, then you might want to send them to a calibration lab for them to adjust them.

Hello,
If batteries are fresh (low batteries give false readings on the meter because the meter uses the batteries to benchmark what it is testing), then you might want to consider taking the meter back even if it has been a couple of years. If that is not possible for you then try calling Greenlee themselves and seeing if there is a warranty on the meter-some meters have 7 year warranties.
Hope this helps,
James
