How to reduce picture size?
Not sure what you mean - if you wish to produce images taking up less storage, then reduce the resolution; if you wish to reduce the size of printed images, use image-editing software on your computer.

To e-mail a video takes
This is normal. Depending on your camera, the higher the quality of video, the larger the file-size. Larger files are difficult, if not impossible to send, due to file-size restrictions most email servers impose. In order to email videos, check you user guide to see if you can reduce the quality of your video, resulting in a smaller file-size. If not, you can look into services such as https://www.yousendit.com/ which allows you to send large files.

Using my FS-501 scanner, all seems well but the OK button doesn't do anything and there is no indication that the picture has been take (I suspect it hasn't).
Download and install Data Recovery on your Windows PC. Launch the best SD card recovery software, and insert your card into your computer after fixing SD card not read by formatting. The main interface includes two parts, data type and location. First of all, select the file types that you want to recover, like Image, Video, Audio, etc. Then choose your SD card in "Removable Devices" section. After setting, you can click on the "Scan" button to start extracting data from the card.
