i have a Gateway laptop. never heard of reseting media recovery disks? you can sometimes order recovering disks from Gateway not sure which registry key you are talking about? if you want to access registry, there are commands in DOS, if your pc is running. go to search box, type registry commands-it may guide you. not sure about you OS or pc age.

your system's display drivers might not accept certain resolutions. sometimes changing your display(monitor) can cause problems like this, when it is not the same as original build limits?

could be a connection problem with power in wiring. bent or damaged wires or connections of those inside monitor. or it could be getting hot? number of things. monitors are farely cheap now days. might be time to update?

dont know how old monitor is but it may be time for an upgrade OR the pc/laptop/desktop? may need some setting changes for your wake time, sleep time, intervals, etc.? Sometimes if laptop,, you have to tap the power button to wake up after extended sleep times.

if it is the original video card on your PC you should be able to download the drivers and other software related to hardware from Gateway webpage. i have used it many times to download or upgrade drivers, software, bios, etc. you go there put in your model number info and it should have all that stuff including manuals? i cannot believe they would not direct you there. Unless, your pc is too old and they dont have it on web? my laptop is about 6+ years old and its support page is still there.

first off, XP is not supported any longer by Microsoft? So, after awhile xp will not work with current WEB browsers, etc. its been so long since ive used XP i cannot remember how to get in to safe mode, let alone out of it? i would try to find out online with a pc that works.

i have opened Laptop displays before and they usually dont slip? Notebooks, wouldn't seem they would slip either. i would guess it was something that needs repairing or replacement? i have replaced displays in laptops and notebooks, surface types probably are just replaced with another, new or refab screen. they are not expensive if my memory is correct.

first, i assume your desktop has a wireless card in it? if it does, you cannot have the cat5 ethernet cable plugged in if you want to look for wireless providers! if the cable is in, take it out. then you should see wireless networks when searching Networks in your settings app. If your desktop does not have wireless card or capability, then there is your answer!don't know how old 508GE is, but many desktops did not come with wireless cards until the last several years or so? and you had to order them or put them in yourself.

Microsoft does not support XP systems any longer. its been a couple years at least! When they upgrade their servers, browsers, for the web, they don't consider what will happen to PCs with XP any longer. XP can no longer communicate with the new systems on the web anymore. It may conncet but soon most programs will be too advanced for XP to work with it. It would have to be updated through Windows Update program, but MS know longer updates XP programs. They are outdated. you need a new pc and OS which is now, Windows 10 latest version. You can still get pcs with WIndows 7 or 8 but they will be outdated soon too. Good Luck.

XP is too old to access the internet anymore! MS stopped updating or supporting XP years ago. Any system they stop supporting will eventually not be able to communicate with the internet. Operating Systems(XP) have to be update to communicate with internet upgrades, once that update process stops, your XP or others, will no longer work on internet. time to buy new pc and windows os, ie. Windows 10

disk drives usually have two main plugs, one for power and the other is a multplug for system communication. power is small with only one connecter. the other multi connecters in the plug. they only fit one way in drives. Just match them up. Power/multi are linked in pairs so that you know which go to any one drive. there are at least two pairs in a desktop. if its a laptop only one pair and you have to take it apart to get at wiring. Desktop, just open case panel to access inside.

can you login? sometimes yahoo servers just don't work either. i used to use Yahoo but they kept changing formats for mail, browser look, etc. without notifying people. Then they have so many problems they keep failing to work! I would give up, sync to Microsoft mail or Google. THey rarely are down or have problems and if updates are coming, they notify you before hand.

13 year old gateway that came with stinking rotten XP still running XP, last man on earth running a virus magnet? why if true,no OS posted so I ASSULMEd it same as 2005 day new. why post lacking what OS was there.? what won't start, ,no login, no desktop, IE6 dead, as all are on the web IE6 is now BANNED. if the OS runs, does it< go to control panel click system , and behold what OS you are running. this 13 year old laptops will have a huge battery now bad, and shorted remove it run on AC power, see if the PC wakes up, soon the CCFL lamps will fail., and that is the end of this notebook most are dead long ago. the CMOS battery will not last this long. ngpvf is a virus, just like all XP users have most seen are 10 or more virus on the PC why not upgrade to w7 at least. or buy used pc with w7 or higher? you PC is way too old to spend cash one, right ? sure. spend cash on working newer PC. if you dont need mobility, get a dell optiplex 990. + cheap monitor.2010 or newer both!!!! http://www.pcdied.com/cheaper.html 2010 is magic year, PCs not junk that day forward, us this to BUY nice used PC. and win no bad GPUs 2008 no CAP Plegue. no CCFL back lamps from H3LL. w7 or up. only

The unit is trying to connect to your network and needs to have these numbers so it can connect.

To answer your question correctly I would need to know the model of that machine. But yes for a quick answer assuming this is a Laptop, you can look for a port on the side or back of the laptop that would allow for a monitor the older models do not have HDMI but still will except the older style VGA Cords. After you plug it in if it does not switch over then look across the row of keys on the top that start with the letter F You will see something that looks like a small monitor push that one, you may have to hold down the fn key located normally on the bottom left row while you select that one.
