Hi,

492 came either as internal or external antenna. Which are you using? If external, I'd carefully check all connections to the antenna as the first thing. Seems to me that either they are hosed, or you likely have a defective antenna or plotter. If internal, I know you said not much has changed but could you have added something (probably metal) which could be blocking internal antenna's sky view? (I don't think this is very likely.)

I take it you are seeing NO satellites when you look at the on-screen chart in the config section?

About the map detail. the pre-loaded charts on the 492 are very good, but with a few exceptions they don't go very far up coastal rivers. The 492 will accept data cards which have more detail for a given region. Check with Garmin or on their website for availability for your river/area.

Now, with the issue you have, you need to contact Garmin for a software update. They will send you a chip and only ask for a deposit. You will get your deposit back once you get return the chip.It's more of what they call a collateral for the replacement unit.

I spoke with Garmin and a software update is the fix but there may be a work around to get you going until the update. See complete response from Garmin below:

I would be happy to help you with this. First, I would try a auto locate
and see if that corrects the issue. If it doesn't I would then try a

Directions on how to do a AutoLocate:

1. Power unit on
2. Hold down the Menu button
3. Highlight the GPS tab
4. Press Menu
5. Highlight AutoLocate
6. Press Enter

After you click on AutoLocate let it set for 20 to 30 minutes with a
clear view of the sky.

Directions on how to do a software update:

If you don't want to purchase the data card or data card reader we can
send you a data card with the update already on it. We would charge you

has anybody fornd an answer to this ? I put in a route, but I am no longer able to cancel it. The spot button is no longer displaying and the route stays active.

To update your nuvi, all you need to do is to connect your nuvi to an internet connected computer and the updates will show on the lower left of your computers screen, click on it and it will update it with the latest software version and maps.
You can also go to your nuvis website and search for latest updates. Just click on the map link and a list will pop up under the map link, select update maps if it is maps you want to update. It will ask you to choose your device from a list, after choosing your nuvi 255w then it will show you the latest maps for your gps, but you have to install its plug ins first.
That is how to update your gps.

Best SOlution for Garmin Nuvi 1450 UPDATE:

1. Connect the device to a computer
2. Install the Garmin Express
3. Purchase or access the Garmin Nuvi 1450 update
4. Disconnect the Garmin Nuvi 1450

If the Nuvi won't charge when connected to charge but charges on USB, then the charger port is faulty.

If the Nuvin does not charge at all , then the battery must be replaced.

Download the GPS drivers from Garmin and install them to your PC. Charge your GPS with a high power usb charger (2A or above) overnight. ZIf you have not done so, download Garmin Express and install it to your PC. Connect your device to your PC. Garmin Express will identify it and allow you to install all the maps and software that the device has a subscription to. If the device still will not power on, you likely have a battery issue. Amazon sells battery kits.

garmin has alot of issues the best thing you can do is go buy a tom tom they work alot better and dont have the issue garmin has

I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps.

After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

Sounds like the battery pack has failed or the charger was not correct voltage and you burned out the unit. I would go with the battery, they are very cheap. Takes about 15 minutes to replace it.

Our Garmin didn't turn on. We unplugged it, pushed the reset button on the bottom and then plugged it in again and it WORKED

I've looked for free map upgrades for my Garmin and could not find anything. I did find a lifetime map upgrade deal for around $75. It allows you unlimited upgrades for as long as you own the GPS. Go to the garmin site and search NUMaps.

Get a USB card reader with a microSD slot. There are a lot of choices. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Reader-RS-MMC-Micro/dp/B006T9B6R2 is the simplest type. Others have a USB cable. More expensive models have a detachable (replaceable) USB cable. See https://www.amazon.com/sd-card-reader/s?k=sd+card+reader for more models. Most of these do not need special drivers to work with most OS versions. (Note: I don't know about ChromeOS drivers. Most Unix versions will mount the reader easily.) I've seen B&H Photo Video (bhphotovideo.com) sell various SD and microSD cards with the card reader included for free. There are also SD adapters for the microSD cards so you can get a reader without a microSD slot. Cindy Wells (my household has several USB card readers. Some are USB 3.0 and the others are older USB 2.0 models. You do need to be very careful handling the card and put it into the reader with the correct orientation. I've seen the microSD cards get damaged when someone moves them between slots.)

This unit comes with a charger (AC). There is alxo a car charger. Both have a USB connecter that plugs into the side of your unit.
