How to program frequency 8113.5 on my Furuno FSS1503 Single Sideband Radio Telephone?
To program a specific frequency on the Furuno FSS1503 Single Sideband Radio Telephone, you can follow these steps:
- Press the Power button to turn on the radio.
- Press the Frequency button to select the desired frequency range (HF, MF, or VHF).
- Use the arrow keys to select the desired frequency (8113.5 kHz in this case).
- Press the Enter button to confirm the frequency selection.
If the frequency is not working, there may be other factors affecting the radio's performance, such as interference, atmospheric conditions, or a faulty antenna. It is recommended to use an antenna coupler or tuner to optimize the radio's performance and ensure proper transmission and reception. If you are still experiencing issues, you may need to consult a professional technician or the manufacturer's customer support for further assistance.
Can I use a Furuno FSS1503 without antenna tuner?
Question edited to what I think you thought you were saying.
I would think the answer is no. This is a high end marine radio by the best maker. It looks to be part of a two piece set up. Single Sideband is used when you are in the middle of the ocean and is made for distance.
I will edit your other post and leave it up in case anyone else wants to add anything.

The user manual is easy to find but they post warnings if you try to open it up and state you should contact an authorized repair facility or the factory. I could not find one.

The only place to get that screen is through a Furuno authorized dealer. The unit is sealed and gas filled to remain waterproof. You're best bet would be to send the unit in to Furuno for repair. You wont save much doing it yourself because the cost of the screen makes up most of the cost of the repair. They will also make sure that all the software is up to date for the new WAAS satellites that recently went on line.
Have you tried adjusting the contrast? On that model I believe you tap the power key while the unit is on and you will see 2 sliding scales on the screen, one for brightness and one for contrast. Up or down arrows select the scale and left or right arrows adjust it. If the contrast and brightmness aren't tied into the power key on that model, they're somewhere in the set up menu.
If adjusting the contrast doesn't help then the screen has most likely failed. This is commonly caused by old age, however repeated exposure to extreme heat or cold can cause premature failure.
