Hi. I found this link, although it's rather long and complicated. He does make the point, however, that often problems with a washing machine emptying are because the pump is blocked. Personally, rather than opening up the whole machine, I find it easier to tip the machine about 45° and get a plastic bowl underneath to catch the water when you take off the pump hose. To do this you will need pliers to open the spring clip on the relevant hose.
But, yes, it can be a lot of water, so it's better to keep the pipe ready to put back halfway through, so you can empty the bowl, then resume. Have fun!
Hope this helped.

This unit is 25 years old and by now will be subject to wear and tear in the compressor, and probably a drop off of efficiency in the cooling system, which may be an old R134a or R12 Gas type unit (not legally repairable now). Does the freezer seem to run for long extended periods - or does it get very noisy and hot in use? Have you noticed an increase in you electricity bills recently? Are the internal fridge fittings and door seals a bit worn out?
I personally wouldn't consider spending loads of cash on a new compressor or regas (if permitted) but would consider replacing the unit. It may be just achieving 'normal' temperatures at the moment, but at what cost in energy usage? - do you drive a 25 year old car?? lol

Damper between fridge and freezer may be open too much. If it’s manual, just adjust it. If it’s electronic, you made need to call for service. Also could be thermostat related.

To remove the back cover, first remove the sides: two screws at bottom of side, one halfway up the back, one inside bucket opening. Also remove four screws holding the top on. Top slides forward to release, then sides slide up about 1/2 inch and pull straight out. Hooked into the front and back. Once the sides are off, the back will come off with remaining four screws.

Whatever sends power to compressor is the problem. Depending on model, either a thermostat or a control board is bad. If it is auto defrost, the defrost timer or control may be bad.
