Frigidaire AC window unit, model fam185r2a (18,500 BTU) only cools for a few minutes before it cycles off and just fan blows. Then a few min later cool air cycles back on. Is this a thermostat issue?

The window units normally have a sensor thats attached to the front of the indoor coil. This controls the thermostat. I usually pull this sensor away from the coil because it stops cooling before the room is cool. It is attached to the cold coil so it senses the coil temp, not the room temp. You can normally see it when you remove the air filter. Don't break it! It may be a wire or small copper tube

As soon as I plug into wall compressor switches on without unit being turned on. Turn unit off and compressor never shuts off until whole unit is unplugged

Sounds like the contacts in a switch or relay are stuck together giving power all the time. Get someone with electrical training to check the power side of things.

Frigidaire AC model LRA187MT2. Compressor runs nonstop - does not matter what the temperature setting is. When put into fan mode displays H1 instead of the temperature. Filter is clean.

You probably have a circuit board failure. On the board there are micro-relays that control power to the compressor. And in that relay the switch that is normally open is stuck closed.

Can i plug a 110 air conditioners into a 220 plug in

Hi Shawn: A 110 air conditioner would only use 1/2 of the available 220, so , the answer is yes, with a great BIG CAUTION!!!!! You have to know how to safely wire in the appropriate plug. - 220 usually will have 4 wires: Red, Black, White, and Green. You get 220 between the red and black, the White is available for 110 to drive a fan or whatever. - 220 sometimes only has 3 wires: Red, Black, and green Here you have 220 with no 110, like a baseboard heater. - 110 has 3 wires: RED OR BLACK, White, and Green. You get 110 between the Red or Black and the white. The White is called Neutral. Do not use the green wire as a neutral if there is no white. The green wire is a ground and is for safety purposes. PLEASE!!!! If this is not perfectly clear and within your ability, DO NOT TRY TO WIRE IT! Get someone who is trade certified to help you. Also, don't even think about messing with the wiring unless the circuit breaker is turned off..

Breaker keeps going when plugging the cord in the outlet

the outlet itself may be miswired with the line(hot) and neutral reversed. simple plug in tester will tell you if that is the issue, among other things. usually under $4 for the tester.

What causes compressor to work fine then shut down and not come back on for an extended amount of time?

Sometimes these AC's need to be removed and given a damm good cleaning with a spray hose, and any filters replaced. Clean the internal fan(s). This can sometimes fix overharting of the compressor or misleading air temp sensing..

The cord for this unit got wet, and im fairly sure the fuse inside the cord tripped. It refuses to turn on.

Hello friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that the power cord to your Frigidaire air conditioner got wet and you would like to know if you can change the cord with a different brand. Even though the cords may be the same voltage it would not be recommend to interchange the cords. I would suggest contacting your manufacturer for proper replacement parts. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

I bought a new thermostat that requires a C wire. I have a spare wire in the cable that goes from my thermostat to my air handler. It's a Model B3BM-O36K-B Frigidaire model air handler.

At your AHU there may be a terminal block that has a C terminal. If not, you will need to locate C. Your outdoor units control wire should have 1 that connects to the Y signal allowing 24v to pass from Y at the t-stat to a wirenut at the air handler, from that wirenut to the contactor. And C comes from the contactor to a wirenut at the airhandler and to C side of transformer. Common wire colors from o.d.unit are red=24v and White from the o.d. unit, (NOT THE WHITE FROM T-STAT!) is the common. The transformer may also have a tag/sticker that states 24v and common with a color of wire for C. And if the t-stat takes batteries that you need to install, you shouldn't need C wired in. C is there so you don't need batteries, if it has a battery option.

Air fan turns on for few sec. then off

Good Afternoon Jonathan, thanks for your post! From the information you have provided the fan on your Frigidaire air conditioner turns off after a few seconds of being on. This could be an issue with your fan motor or control panel. I would suggest performing a reset on your air conditioner. You can do that by unplugging the power cord and pressing the rest button. You should then hear a click and press the test button then plug the air conditioner back in. If that does not correct your issue you may need to have a technician out to your home to perform a proper diagnosis and repair. I hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

WHY DOES MY FRIGIDAIRE AIR CONDITIONER SLEEP BUTTON KEEPS BEEPING?

I appreciate your post, Tamara Brazile! I see that your sleep button on your Frigidaire air conditioner continues to beep. Do you see any error codes on your air conditioner? Additionally, could you please provide me with your model number? You can locate the serial tag (which lists your model number) on the outside frame of your air conditioner or under the front panel. With that additional information I can further assist you. -Matt

What do i have to do to plug my 110 air conditioner into where my 220 window unit

You need a step down transformer, to convert 220V to 110V. You can't just plug the 110V A/C unit in directly unless it is clearly marked as being suitable for multi-voltage supply (110V - 220V input). Such a transformer has to be of sufficient capacity to handle the current, or wattage, that will be required. The Frigidaire unit in your question is a 3.5 kW cooling capacity, so the transformer would need to be about the same, ie for a 10A supply at least. They are quite big boxes, about $120. http://welectronics.com/TRANSFORMERS/step-up-down.JPG You would put this in the roof or in a cupboard.
