I bought a rebuild kit
Hey Roy, maybe its time for a qualified professional to take a look at it... was the "rebuild kit" a factory or "aftermarket"... sounds like you are using the same method I use when I have a "difficult" carb... you can "polish" the seat with a long wooden swab..(I buy mine by the box at my local pharmacy)... just take the swab and push down into the seat and twist until you are satisfied its smooth and burr free... .. (I do this to the ones I clean).. sometimes I use a TINY amount of 1200 grit polishing compound BUT ITS HARD TO CLEAN OUT THE EXCESS COMPOUND.... but it helps the seat..
...make sure the needle's seating area is clean and burr, nick, groove free. ....
Kohler 14 hp no compression
check the compression. it may just be a blown head gasket or a push rod may have broke or bent. possible a stuck valve or valve seat. if the engine still spins over by hand it should be a easy fix. and a cheap fix also if you do it yourself. it will require a few special tools and valve grinding compound but there are videos on you tube that show how to do this.
