You should be able to pull the whole distributor out by taking one bolt out that holds a Y bracket on that holds the distributor down. Make sure you mark the distributor and the engine before you pull it out. Also mark the rotor. Once you get it out, you will be able to determine if the shaft is broken. Hold the gear and try to spin the rotor. If the shaft is broken, you will probably need a new distributor. Seems strange that the shaft would bust, but I guess anything is possible.

drain the water out of the carby bowl clean out the main jet

Turn Counter clockwise to loosen for more slack. You need about .005 to .008" slack if to tight you will break your new cylinder.

Is the draft levers in right postion

I t is behind teardrop shaped cover below r ight hand brake drum.

You broke linkage inside on rockshaft when you pulled off the right lift arm. Sorry. Pull top hitch off and repair. There is a procedure to replace these seals safely without moving rockshaft side to side.

The only way to remove that cover is to . Remove the oil filter base, has two bolts then remove the engine oil pump from the timing cover . This will give you access to all the bolts.

ck to see what hydraulic oil your using , I bet it's an all weather rated oil, if temp is below zero then that's out of "all weather" range , you will need to look into using a cold weather rated oil (ck with you local dealer to ask ), my tractor has an oil bypass lever you can engage on the valve block this allows oil to circulate around in loop to heat up (+20 degrees) to work in cold temps , I don't think a 856 has one of them
