sounds to me as tho u have over wound it only way round it is to take it to watch mender which if it is a gold hunter it is worth the trouble,

Simple..there are 4 buttons on this watch. Right?...All four buttons push in...no kidding....HOWEVER the button at the five(5) oclock postion...PULLS OUT...this is the key..because this only button, pulls out, iThe digital display starts to flash....just experiment with pushing any button, BUT the five oclock and you should be ableTo figure it out. After its set, then push the five oclock back to its origanal postiton...

Walmart has an over the counter replacement policy for up to one year. I would demand to see the manager because they are responsible for making things right, the last thing they want is a customer openly complaining about their products and exposing the general public to the bad service they have provided you, where this could have been taken of with an exchange.

No unfortunately there is not! you have gone as far as you can go by changing the battery. The problem lies in the timing module that houses the quartz crystal, it vibrates at a certain frequency that is critical for keeping time. This will require a jeweler who specializes in this type of repair to address the situation.

Most of the warranties that I have read exclude anything that is in contact with the user, that is, they only guarantee the mechanism.

This is because they cannot guarantee that the owner will not miss-use things like straps.

If you have a copy of the warranty, I would expect you to find that is says something like "10 year limited warranty" and does not cover the strap.

The movement in this Elgin is made by Citizen. After you change the battery, you need to reset the hands so that the watch functions properly. Select chronograph function with lower-right button. Then pull-out the same button. Push the upper left button to select the UTC, hour, and minute hands. Then use lower-left and upper-right buttons to make sure everything is aligned to 12:00 position. After setting the hands to 12:00, push in lower right button. Now you can set the time by selecting the SET using the lower right button. Pull out the same button and choose your time zone to set. mcdevito75 here, Elgin a great name in watches, usually the back of the watch is base metal while the bezel or fron of the watch is plated, almost any jeweler can give an approx. value to your watch, of couse it"s age and condition count for alot.
