Elgin Westminster Quartz Chime clock won't work

IF I GATHER CORRECTLY , YOUR CLOCK HAS TWO BATTERIES, ONE AT BASE AND ANOTHER ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT. THE ONE ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CLOCK'S FUNCTIONALITY AND I THINK THE BATTERY AT BASE IS FOR THE ROTATING BALLS ( PENDULUM ). SO OPEN UP THE BACK IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO, AND REPLACE THE BATTERY. CAREFULLY THOUH AS THERE RE TWO SCREWS ON TOP AND A SNAP AT CENTER BOTTOM WHICH YOU COULD EASILY BREAK IF YOU DO NOT DO IT WITH CARE. OPEN UP THE SCREWS FIRST AND GENTLY USING A SCREW DRIVER PUSH BACK ON THE SNAP HOLE TO FORCE IT UPWARDS AND INWARDS. IF NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE THEN WE ARE LOOKING AT TWO DIFFERENT CLOCKS.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

Wil not run

Could be a lot of things. Cleaned and oiled isn't the same as overhauled. A bad cleaning will just move some particles out of the way, temporarily. Eventually, they can stop a watch. A part could have broken during the cleaning. You may have "over wound" (jammed gear) the watch and it's stuck. So, sorry, but no single answer. Yesterday, I bought a watch that was supposedly cleaned. I removed the back to authenticate. It was dirty. So... A reputable place is important. Size of store or advertising is not. Do some checking. Good watchmakers are hard to find. A good watch overhaul can cost at least $125 and well over $600 on higher end brand name watches. Average is about $160 at retail.

Change battery in Elgin watch FQ024-007

The back of this watch doesn't pry off, it screws off.I used the open tip of a needle-nose pliers to unscrew the back of the watch by inserting the the tips into opposing grooves in the back of the watch and turning it counter-clockwise.Once the back of the watch is off, there are a few slotted screws that appear to hold a metal cover over the back of the watch 'guts', you'll need a jeweler's screwdriver to remove these screws (I counted 3 of them). The battery is right under this cover. When re-assembling the watch, I would apply a thin coat of sewing machine oil, or some other non-reactive lubricant, to the black gasket seal which should be on the back cover of the watch.
