DSL connection (Modem) problem

Contact AT&T DSL support for help in getting your network to work. And do not believe them if they tell you your modem is no good. They want to shut down their DSL service and will go to any length, lying included, to get people to change over to their fiber optic system.

How do I lock my wireless internet so neighbors can not log on

1. First you must set password to access the web interface, so that only you can change the setting. For a linksys the default web-interface is at 192.168.1.1 The first term you access it enter username:admin, password admin. If that does not work read the manual to find that out. 2. Explore the TAB and each sub-menu to familiarize yourself with the interface. For change to Take effect you must SAVE. Button is at the bottom. 3. In the TAB SETUP>Basic Setup Activate the Automatic DHCP reservation of IP addresses. Enable it on the same page 4.Under the ADMINISTRATION TAB >Management enter a new router password. 5. Under the Wireless TAB> Security Menu, select the Security Mode as WPA2Personal, and Encyiption AES. Enter a passphrase ( like a password but can be a phrase -part of a sentence. For key renewal enter a number like 3600 seconds. Save all. Now if you connect a device through the wireless you will be prompted to enter the pass-phrase. You will be asked for it after every power down of router or reboot of router. If you reset the configuration by pressing the reset button on the router you must redo everything again. Remember: You will erase everything every time you reset the router. So if you make mistakes, just reset it with a straightened paper clip. Remember, any body who has physical access to the router can reset. If tech savvy, he/she can give him/her/self access.

I have the speedstream 5100 modem. I just replaced my xp machine with a windows 8 and I can't get to the internet now. It tells me ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration. Any sugges

If you do not have a router you have to reboot the modem first, Modems pair with one device at a time using its MAC address, using a router allows you to add remove computers to your internet access without rebooting the router for every device because the modem pairs to the router and the router shares its internet with your other devices.

How do I discover or reset the password

Your modem if it is a Speedstream 5200 does not have any wireless capability and as such, there is no need for a password. You can only use one computer connected with an ethernet cable to your computer. What you can do is purchase a wireless router, preferably a N series wireless router because it is stronger than a normal G series router. Normally your modem connects to your computer via the ethernet cable. With a wireless router, instead of plugging the modem to your computer you should plug it in router. From the router you can connect another ethernet cable and plug it in on your desktop. You can connect at least 4 wired computer to your router. For the wireless part, all they have to do is look for the strongest wireless signal then hit connect. If it ask for a password then it should be in the sticker at the side of the wireless router.

I have a speedstream internet modem and 3/4 lights

The most common solution for this is to disconnect/unplug the power supplies from both the internet modem and the router, they may be one and the same, then wait a full minute or two then plug them back in. The power should now be recycled and back to working status. Restart your computer so it grabs a new IP address. If this doesn't work then call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and have them help you confirm signal from their end. They may send you another router or help change the proprietary settings.

Hi paintballa12!

Here's the link for yor modem's userguide..

http://www2.windstream.net/downloads/links/SpeedStream211.pdf

Normally, all dsl modems can be "unbridged" byr resetting it to factory state.. But that would mean you have to save you DSL username & password again..

Check page 38 for setting modem to non-bridge mode..

Hope this helps..

Hello, I am the office

Thank you for using FixYa

I am going to attempt and I say attempt to give you a solution. After much research I find that this issue has come up before since about 2003 on those series of modems. I found one solid reference that solved the issue. Their solution was to set the modem to Bridge and do the port fowarding in the Linksys router. I do not know if this will help you in your setup but it is at least worth the suggestion. I am sure your Speedstream is out of warranty by now and you are unable to get back to the supplier, who may have other suggestions. Those modems have come through an evolution of updates as you might have guessed and the solution may be getting another kind.

I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.

I have a Speedstreams 5200

Hello,
If your router is connected via the Ethernet port no drivers are necessary.

If you don't have a good reason to use the USB port, please use the Ethernet since it's much faster.

Please let me know.
