IF your WiFi Router has REMOVABLE antennas you MAY be in luck!
REPLACE your Low Gain Antennas with
15 DBi "OMNI DIRECTIONAL" Wireless WLAN WiFi Antennas!
Most (removable) Router Antennas are about 6 dBi
or less... These NEW
OMNI Directional Antennas 2.4GHz are rated at
15dBi so you can almost DOUBLE your WiFi Transmitting
AND Receiving range with them. Find them on eBay for about $2.46 each!
(My Router had FIXED antennas, but also has a lot of
NICE features I didn't want to loose so I installed three SMA Female connectors and WHALA! Even
BETTER 360 degree range!)
Now here is another approach
IF you have the room to install them:
These are rated at (approx.)
16dBi in TRANSMIT and RECEIVING Gain!
Search eBay for :
"2.4GHz 13dbi WLAN WiFi Wireless Yagi Antenna"
As low as $8.33 with free shipping!
Know the Antenna is about 19.6" LONG and works best when installed at
one end of the property! This is because the smallest elements (and highest gain) are pointed
TOWARDS your WiFi users. This YAGI is NOT a good choice if your WiFi Router is in the MIDDLE of your users.
Not to get too technical, but here is a example of a Antenna Pattern and note that the YAGI signal looks much like a
'flashlight' beam:
Note that
most of the signal is focused
towards the right or
in the direction of the smallest antenna elements. Looking at the pattern you will also see the poorest coverage is left and right of the antenna and behind it where the largest elements are.
This is
not to say WiFi won't work in those areas because in many/most cases where users are close to the Antenna(s), users should still have decent coverage.
Enjoy!
